Is it enough to simply be
in a world of first impressions?
To look beneath the surface
and seek the truth of self,
while others manipulate
and lie.
In the pursuit of happiness,
identity is formed
when we focus on the essence,
and not the sheen.
Is it enough to simply be
and refuse the outward gloss?
To focus on the substance
of a life lived well and sure,
while others fabricate
and boast.
In the pursuit of happiness,
character is forged
when we focus on the design
and not the polish.
Is it enough to simply be
in a world of first impressions?

Beautifully thought-provoking post Sara. I think this is a struggle for most people – to simply ‘be’ never feels like enough but for me right now, it’s essential. I think we all get to that point eventually. x
I love this, I love the repeating pattern and the craft of it as well as the ideas. I’ve read it through a few times and bookmarked it to come back again.
I am not sure it is but I wish it was.
I also wish I could write as well as you do
This is beautiful. I completely understand the sentiment behind these words and yes, I believe it is enough to just be – although so many don’t seem to think so. Thank you for linking to Prose for Thought x
