So, this was the week of Storm Stella. After predictions of 12-18 inches of snow for Tuesday, in the end we *only* got about 7 inches. Still a fair amount, but nowhere near as bad as it could have been!
All in all, it’s been a good week.
My eldest won a medal in the 100 yard Breast Stroke at the YMCA New England Championships on Sunday, coming in 8th place, in a competition that brings together the best swimmers from YMCA swim teams across New England. He knocked 10 seconds off his personal best! He was thrilled and we are so proud of him. He also knocked a second off his 50 yard Breast Stroke time, placing 13th in this event, an amazing achievement at this level. Massive proud mum moment here.
Monday evening saw a snow day for Tuesday announced in preparation for the arrival of Storm Stella. My husband worked from home too, so we had a bonus ‘weekend’ day which was lovely. Pancakes for breakfast, lunch together and no sports getting the way of eating dinner as a family. A delayed start the following day gave us another lie in, and a welcome slow start to the day!
The snow we did get was wet and heavy and hard to clear. It turned to sleet and rain as the day went on, making for a tough job for the snow plows as well as homeowners. And, any snow not shoveled before early evening froze solid overnight, which made for an interesting morning!
It might not have been great snow for building, but it was still fun, and snow angels are a must.
This little girl loves the snow. That face says it all!
We’re ending the week with the final swim meet of the winter season, a birthday party and the last winter soccer skills class. I hope the weather takes note of the end of the winter sports season… Spring would be nice now. I’ll just ignore the forecast of snow for tomorrow!
Hope you’ve all had a lovely week. Head over to my Instagram feed to see the rest of this week’s 365 photos…
It sure was wet! I cleared my car in the rain and it was like bricks of snow. Our school yard is a snowy ice rink now!
Bricks of snow, that’s a great way to describe it, it was quite bizarre!
Wow, I’m so impressed with your boy’s swimming! No wonder you’re proud. Love this photo. It sounds like the snow worked out quite well for your family this time :)
Thank you! The snow actually did make for a fun day for us this time :)
Oh my, 7 inches of snow. That’s crazy. Just the 3 would halt the entire country here. At least your girl is having fun in it I guess! And a huge well done to your boy x
Ha! Yes, it really would, but it’s just par for the course here! And thank you :)
only 7 inches of snow, what a disappointment….lol. Well done to your son on his swimming, 10 seconds is quite some time to cut off his PB. Breaststroke was my event when I was a teenager.
Thank you :) 10 seconds was a lot, his coaches were very impressed!
I never realised quite how snowy Boston was until I started reading your blog! Hope Storm Stella doesn’t make a return. #MySundayPhoto
Hi Sarah, congratulations to your son, I bet he’s chuffed. It must be weird having final event of the winter when there is still snow on the ground. I hope spring starts soon for you.

xx
It looks like she is having so much fun. Unfortunately we have hardly had any snow this year to enjoy x
Well done to your eldest, that’s really impressive swimming, snow envy as always though I’m glad you didn’t get too much!
I really wish we’d had just some of the snow you’d had this year
Thank you for linking up
Congratulations to your daughter on her medal, and to your family on your extra weekend day. I love days when we have nothing to do! So do my kids. This is why we don’t sign up for many activities. (At least that’s my excuse! Lol!) We only got slush here. The kids still got a day off of school, but it was absolutely no fun to play in. Boo!
well done on the swimming achievement, every right to be proud.
glad you could get some positive out of that amount of snow. It is a pain when it freezes as then takes days to defrost making driving in the housing schemes very difficult.
Hate it when it freezes, but the snow day was quite a nice bonus :)
Hopefully it’s the last snow of the season? (She says without knowing anything about snow anywhere).
Well done to your eldest in swimming – Buddy has just joined the swimming club, so he is yet to compete but breast stoke is his strongest. Look forward to reading all about their developments.
SNOW – WOW – we didn’t get any and we live in Scotland. Funny isn’t it!
My son loves swimming, hope Buddy enjoys it too :)
Lovely pic of your daughter. So you’re a swim mum! I work with 2 whose 5 children between them swim for squads, and it seems so much sacrifice and way too many early mornings for my liking. After 6 years of lessons, N still can’t float on his back or swim on his back without a float. I’m despairing a bit because he doesn’t seem to be progressing and his lesson seems way too advanced and technical for the level they’re meant to be working at.
I am indeed a swim mum. Thankfully practice is in the evening, but it’s four nights a week so it is quite disruptive to family life, we don’t manage to eat together as much as I’d like. Swim meets take up a lot of the weekends too, and they can be really long! He loves it though, so it’s worth it. He didn’t start swimming seriously until he was eight, nearly nine though, so at N’s age he was still just learning.
It’s great when they find something they enjoy, although it definitely makes life hard. Thankfully I don’t think N will be a club swimmer. I don’t think I could hack the dedication to that
It’s getting easier as my son gets older, he needs less supervision so I drop him at the door to the Y, don’t even need to get out of the car anymore, and his dad picks him up at the end of practice :)
Congratulations to your boy on his swimming victory. I love your girls happy face in the snow. #365
Thank you :)
That’s great news for your little swimmer! Bet you are looking forward to Spring arriving properly now? :D #sundayphoto
Wonderful news on the swimming front, that’s a brilliant job. I hope he’s really proud of himself too. The freezing snow and ice doesn’t sound like much fun to me at all #365
Thank you, it’s given his confidence such a boost :) I was able to just watch the snow! My poor husband had to do the clearing :)
Yay snow pics!! My favourite – probably not yours necessarily! Beautiful snow angel x
Ha! I don’t mind too much, the snow hasn’t been too awful this year :)
I do love a good snow day! Our colleagues were over from Rochester and they were hit pretty hard by it, in fact it’s left some damage to one house and uprooted trees. Looks great fun to play in though! #MySundayPhoto
Oh well done on the medal! Making the snow angel looks fun….have to admit I have never made one, didn’t when last had the chance and now we rarely get snow!
We’ve not had snow here for a few years. Even then not anything like 7 inches! Hope spring makes an appearance soon.
Very wet here too. Well done on the swimming – sounds like he’s doing really well.
Well done to you son, what amazing achievements! Does your school district add missed school days due to weather onto the end of the year? Ours does! I find it really bazaar! Beautiful snow angel :)
