Reflections: Week 47-48

We seem to be hurtling towards Christmas. I find this happens every year, as soon as Thanksgiving has passed, time speeds up. December appears out of nowhere, and the countdown truly begins.

We had a lovely long weekend for Thanksgiving, very much a happily adopted holiday for us now. We spent the day itself with friends and had a wonderful day full of good food and laughter. And, a rather hilarious game of ‘how many obscure 80’s classics does Alexa know?’. Too few it seems, too few! As usual, I baked, and I was rather pleased with how my spiced apple bundt cake with caramel glaze turned out.

We made the most of our few days off, and enjoyed a fun family focused weekend, with the odd kid activity thrown in. A ninja skills clinic for the 8yo, a friends birthday party for the 5yo and a trip to see Thor for the 11yo.

This past week has been chaotic! My eldest joined the drama group when he started Middle School and this weekend was the culmination of two months of intense rehearsals. The show opened on Friday, after a week of technical and dress rehearsals, that kept him at school until 9.30pm (and his parents up waiting to go and pick him up!). Four shows later, and he is on his way home from the after show party as I type. Early night for him!

It’s been a good week otherwise, a mix of damp and cold, and mild and sunny, but that’s about right for this time of year.

Today is my husband’s birthday, and he has spent most of it ferrying children to one activity or another, as have I. It’s been a divide and conquer kind of weekend! But, I’m planning cake followed by an early night for ALL children, before opening a bottle of fizz and celebrating the passing of another year.

So, with that in mind, I will hit publish on this!

Hope you’ve all had a lovely couple of weeks. Head over to my Instagram feed to see the rest of this week’s 365 photos…

  1. Yes the down side to nice things like being involved in a school production is the late nights that makes them grumpy.
Glad you have settled into the what is now your national holiday and enjoyed good company. Cake looks yummy

  2. The Thanksgiving thing seems a very Christmassy thing close to Christmas looking from the outside in, but I do like the idea of a family get together.
