As this blog has grown it has become a place for me to share my writing. Being a writer has long been a middle of the night dream for me, and to be able to write and have people read, and like, my words has been more than I could ever have hoped for when I started mumturnedmom.
I have written opinion pieces. I have shared my thoughts on (and struggles with) writing and mused on motherhood, parenting and identity. I have written poetry and prose; something I haven’t done in many years. And more than that, I have had the courage to hit publish and been thrilled to see my creative writing shared by others, including regular mentions in the BritMums Poetry and Prose round up. How amazing is that?!
It has been, and continues to be, a wonderful journey.
Sara,
I made your princess poppy cake this weekend and it was great! My first time using fondant and even attempting something like this but your instructions were great! Thank You!
Danielle
Hi Danielle, thank you so much for letting me know, and I’m glad it was a success! Your comment has really made me smile this morning :)
Hello! I plan on making this cake for my daughter’s birthday but I have 2 questions:
1. Having never worked with fondant before, does it come in white and you just separated it to make individual colors?
Meaning do you buy it in every color or just color it yourself to create ALL the colors?
2. I am not familiar with them term “dirty” frost. Does it mean that you put on a layer of icing the includes a bit of cake crumbs in? Thank you so very much!
Hi Carole, hope I’m not too late in responding.
1. You can buy lots of different colors of fondant, and for this cake I bought pale pink for the face. However, you can use food coloring to color white fondant to whatever color you’d like. This is especially useful when you only need a small amount of a specific color.
2. By dirty-ice I do indeed mean a crumb coat – I must update that terminology in the post!
