The Prompt: Sacrifice

As sunshine yields to moonlight
the darkness gives way to light

As the beach surrenders to the sea
the ocean relinquishes the sand

As the tree yields the fruit
the harvest sustains the land

As work acquiesces to sleep
dreams restore balance

As joy is forfeited to the mundane
happiness is found in the moment

As identity is lost to motherhood
character is born of necessity

As age steals youth
wisdom passes to the young

As spring delivers summer
to then submit to autumn

As autumn succumbs to winter
to then deliver spring

suffers, endures, appeases

  1. I love your poetry, a genre I just cannot do justice to. I love your last line, I think it’s so apt for parenting and it’s a line that made me think of sacrifice in a different way; a positive way – “sacrifice suffers, endures, appeases, Renews”; love it!

  2. Beautiful poem Sara, I love the sense of balance in it – the reminder that sacrifice also leads to giving back too. I love the last three lines – so much truth summed up in just a few simple words.

  3. As always I love your poetry and I used to write so much of it on my blog and just got away from it. I wil be starting up again as I miss the way you can describe things like you have done here with poetry. Sacrifice ….what a great post. Thank you so much for linking up to Share With Me. I hope to see you again this week for another great round of #sharewithme
