Darling girl: now you are four

Darling girl, you are four years old. Four!

You are becoming so grown up; articulate and thoughtful, and tall! I know you love being a big girl, you are so proud to help, so happy to be involved. Your confidence and kindness take my breath away. You are a whirlwind of enthusiasm and laughter. You brighten our days.

Darling Girl Now You Are Four

You can be a challenge, I have to be honest. You are determined, stubborn and not one to take no for an answer. This can be hard work, but your strength of character is a wonderful thing to see.

Your constant questioning and pushing of boundaries is as inspiring as it is exhausting. And while I never want you to lose that ability to see beyond the moment, sometimes you do need to let things be. But, that will come.

You are bright and clever and oh, so quick. You amaze me and there are times when I can’t keep up!

You are kind and caring, you hate to see anyone cry and you’re the first to offer comfort. Or chocolate. Even on my worst days you can make me smile. Even on your worst days you can make me smile!

Your brothers adore you. You drive them nuts, but they love you. Nothing makes me happier than watching the three of you together and I hope you remain as close throughout your lives. You are a lucky girl to have two such wonderful big brothers. Remember that, and appreciate it.

You see the best in everyone, and you bring out the best in people. Your love of life is infectious and you draw others to you. A great skill to have, but one that comes with responsibility; to always be kind and inclusive, to be mindful and aware of those around you.

You are a wonderful friend.

Now You Are Four

We love you, beautiful girl. You are a joy to know and you have made our family complete.

Happy Birthday sweetheart.

  1. Awww Sara — this is so beautiful. Gorgeous, heartfelt words that your little girl will be so happy to read when she’s a little bit older. They grow so fast don’t they? My boys have just turned 3 and I’m trying so hard to make time slow down — but it’s marching on so quickly. Happy, happy birthday to your bright and clever little friend! xx

They really do Caro, and even though each new stage is so exciting, I would like to press pause every so often!

  2. Oh yes she is darling indeed! Four that is a big milestone and I love that stage with my own kiddos. They can more freely communicate, but they are so sweet and loveable and yes darling :) that they just make you so happy!

Exactly, we have the best conversations now, it’s so much fun, and she’s still got that wonderful ability to jump from one flight of fancy to another, without pausing for breath :)

  3. Aww, this is such a cute and moving post. Happy birthday to the little one, and thank you for sharing how incredible she is with all of us x

  4. What a lovely lovely post, i wrote a similar letter to my 3 year old boy to mark his birthday. I can’t believe how quickly it goes! This is such a wonderful age too :)

  5. Popped over through Jen’s linkup, and just want to wish a happy birthday to your little girl! We have a near four-year-old and it’s definitely an interesting transition. Looks like you’ve got a sweet one there.

  6. Hi Sara, I hope your little girl had a wonderful birthday and I hope that one day when she’s older you print off this letter to give to her. I’m sure it will make her smile as it has done anyone who has read it… And she’ll never be short of friends if she hands out chocolate for comfort.

    xx
