Summer: water fight!

Summer: water fight!

One of the first things that the kids put on our summer bucket list was a water fight! In fact, it has been one of the most requested activities so far this vacation, with the wee girl being the most keen?!

On a particularly hot and sticky day last week, setting up the hose and water table seemed like a good plan. Everyone was getting grumpy and needed to cool down.

Armed with water squirters and the hose, off they went. The screams and giggles were wonderful, and I only got a little bit (okay, a lot!) wet taking the photos.

They were all running around and moving so fast, that it was a bit tricky to get a decent shot, but even in the blurry photos the sense of movement, fun and laughter comes jumping out.

The wee girl was in her element, and the boys loved being chased with the water!

The water table provided frequent refills for the water squirter, and her aim was surprisingly accurate!

The 9yo took great pleasure in soaking his little brother and sister, but neither of them seemed to mind in the slightest…

An epic battle took place at one point with the 6yo putting up a good fight with the squirter…

But I think it’s fair to say that the 9yo had the upper hand once he’d grabbed the hose.

Although this was also the point at which I got completely soaked and retreated indoors to watch from the safety of the kitchen table :)

When the days get hot and the humidity rises, a quick cool off in the garden is almost a necessity. Water fights will continue to be a regular occurrence for the rest of the summer!

I’m linking up with the wonderful Country Kids at Coombe Mill, as always. Click on the badge to see what everyone else has been up to and be inspired to get outside!

  1. Oh what a great post Sara – they all look like they’re having way too much fun! Here’s too sunny days and a fabulous summer for you all x

  2. It looks like they such great fun. What is it with kids and water?! I can’t wait for next summer when the kids will be slightly older and we can do this too! Beautiful photos x

  3. Looks like they had a blast! Your post brought back so many fond memories of growing up and wrestling the hose away from my siblings on a hot summer day. We have been in a drought for the past several years and are unable to do this now.

That must be tough, being able to pop the sprinklers on for ten minutes to let them cool off is fabulous!

  4. Love these photos. Water fights are brilliant. I’m sure my kids will have one at some point this summer. They normally end in one boy just chucking an entire bucket of water over his brother!

  5. Such simple garden fun yet always guaranteed to bring squeals of delight. I do love it when the kids do the same here, it usually comes from an innocent car washing that goes astray and ends up in a huge water fight. Perfect for hot and sticky days, though I think you have far more of those than we do. Lovely photos and I hope you kept the camera dry! Thank you for sharing on Country Kids.

  6. Great pics. As you know I’m always the one who gets shot at, so I always worry about my camera. Looks like yours all had a blast.

  7. Awww this made me wish that I have more than one child haha. Such an amazing summer activity but I dont have a space and hose bib so I will just look at your photos and look at how fun it is to play with water hoses! =P

  8. Great fun! You can’t beat a good water fight on a hot summers day. That’s on our bucket list too. Looks like everyone had a fab time :)

  9. Summer is so much fun with water fights. The children in our street can all go outside with a big bucket and the battle is on. So much fun and laughter filling the street.

  10. I love those water squirters, not seen ones like that before. My daughter would love them too! After a while, I probably wouldn’t love them quite so much when I’d been drenched a few times! #countrykids
