This week was all about a fifth birthday. My funny, bright, beautiful little girl turned five! I still can’t quite believe it, the past five years have gone by so quickly, she’s growing up too fast.
The excitement had been building all week, and was reaching fever pitch by the time her birthday actually arrived. After opening a few presents, she was thrilled to get to go to school and spend the day with her friends. She even got a present from the school crossing guard. We had one very happy girl on our hands! We followed tradition and finished opening presents after school, before ending the celebrations by blowing out candles on an ice-cream cake. I save the baking for the kids birthday parties :)
Rather unusually, the evening was then spent supporting her eldest brother in a city-wide spelling bee. Each elementary school fielded a team of three *top spellers* and he and his team did really well, coming in third. Having quizzed him on his words, I can tell you, they were tricky!
We now have her party to look forward to tomorrow, and I really must get going with making her cake (wish me luck, she’s requested Princess Poppy…).

Always feel it is a shame when their birthday is on a school day and they have to wait for the bulk of their presents. Glad she enjoyed her day, and hope she liked her cake.
