Cheerful: Voucher Day 1

Regular readers may remember that we decided to give the children a voucher to be Boss for the Day for Christmas. We felt that they already had so many presents and we wanted to give them an event instead.

The boys were very excited by this idea, and immediately started planning their days! We did add some small print to the voucher, to ensure that it didn’t just involve sitting in front of the TV all day :)

The 4yo got to have his day first and his requests were typically simple:

Pancakes for breakfast were followed by watching his new Turbo DVD in his PJs!

He then asked for a ‘boys’ trip to Chuck E Cheese for lunch – as I find this place hellish, I wasn’t too upset to be left behind, and it was his day after all, not mine! The boys came back from Chuck E Cheese fed and excited about the plastic tatt wonderful prizes they had won :)

He then decided to play a board game, choosing one of his favourites, Walk the Plank. This was followed by a quick go on the wii!

As if pizza for lunch wasn’t enough, he asked to go to our local takeaway and ‘sit in’ for dinner; he was very happy with his hot dog, and the wee girl was pretty pleased too!

To finish off his perfect day, he got to watch his choice of movie in bed :)

He was so thrilled to be Boss for the Day; although to be honest, it took him a while to really get it. His requests to begin with were so simple, he couldn’t quite get his head around the fact that he could do (just about!) anything for the day. By the end though, he was definitely up to speed!

The day was a huge success and we will definitely do it again for birthdays and Christmas. Seeing his face when he realised that he could have pancakes and watch a movie and go to Chuck E Cheese was priceless. Even more so when he realised that he still had an afternoon to organise, and dinner! His excitement and pure pleasure in the day were just magical.

You can read about the 7yo’s day later this week; he was quicker to understand the concept :) The small print on the vouchers came in handy with him…!

All this week, I’m hosting a linky of cheerfulness! You can read about the idea here. If you’d like to join in with any cheerful, happy, funny, silly, magical or inspirational posts to brighten up this rather miserable February, please do and I will share them to spread a little cheerfulness :)

  1. Funky Wellies

That is a great idea! We do show or concert tickets for birthdays or Christmas sometimes and the girls love it. xx

  2. This is a brilliant idea! But I’m a bit afraid to use it on our little one :) Love your little girl’s photo, so cute! :)

There was certainly risk involved! Hence the small print that gave us veto over anything too outrageous :)

  3. This is an awesome idea! I will be using this in the future. We have a large family and the boys end up with too much as both birthdays are only a few weeks either before or after christmas.

Exactly, it really does all get too much, so we thought this would work well, and it really did :) I’d recommend it xx
