With almost a foot of snow, building stuff becomes an option!
One of the boys Christmas presents was ‘block’ moulds for snow/sand. After the last heavy snowfall, it seemed the ideal opportunity to try them out and see if we could build an igloo. I think daddy was just as keen to try them out as the boys!
Filling the moulds took some work, the snow needed to be firmly packed so that the blocks didn’t fall apart when they were tipped out. After a bit of trial and error the boys were successfully filling blocks and passing them to daddy who was building the walls.
The snow continued to fall as the boys (all three of them!) worked to build their igloo. Dropping blocks into place and then filling in the gaps to make the walls good and strong.
The wee girl wasn’t much help, but she enjoyed watching… for a few minutes anyway before deciding it was too cold and time to go inside; as usual she refused to wear her mittens!
The, almost, finished article! The snowfall got too much for them all at this point in the construction, and they retreated inside. Hubby is still trying to decide how to make it into an igloo rather than a tower :)
While I may have my moments of detesting the snow, I am loving the different activities that the kids are able to do. Things that they never had the opportunity to do in Scotland. We really have been making the most of it!

What a fab activity! Shame they didn’t get to finish the igloo. I would be curious to see if they ever manage to add a roof to the tower (might have to be blankets!). Mel

Yeah, the combination of slightly fluffy snow with small children was hampering his construction skills :)
The top bit is tricky. I love the brick kit. I suspect that if we had them then we’d have to save them for a beach trip, or a ginormous bath bomb. Not much snow so far this year. :( #CountryKids
I would love to have sent some snow your way, we’ve had more than enough of it :) I think the top bit required more help than a 7&4yo were up to!
Ooh those building blocks look great. With all this snow (at least for us as well) it’s always great to find other ideas for the kids.
It’s been fun finding new activities to do in the garden, we certainly have had enough of the stuff to play with :)
That does look like fun-I think the roof part will definitely be the trickiest! I can imagine how you must feel about the snow, but it’s great to take advantage of all those opportunities :)
Exactly, the snow gets in the way of the day to day, but opens up lots of opportunities for fun!

She really does! I put them on, she takes them off… And repeat, until I give up :)
Sara I have seen this done before and it is right up high on my to do list if we ever see enough snow. I can just see all my kids pulling together on a project like this. Up to the roof next time. It’s been a case of ‘if you can’t beat it…’! We’ve had a lot of fun with it, even if it is a bit annoying if you just want to go shopping :)
Oh wow that looks fantastic. We’d never have enough snow to build an igloo here, perhaps a mud house might work though!

Oh my goodness those moulds are awesome, I’m off to amazon to try and find them! They’d be brilliant on the beach. Wonderful photographs, the snow looks amazing. I don’t think we’ll have any snow this year, too wet.

How awesome is this, just brilliant. What a wonderful thing to do – it sounds like so much fun. Nice to have the sunshine on you too. I love wee girl’s refusal to wear gloves, POD does that even when her hands are freezing! Fabulous post. I’d much prefer snow than the storms we’ve had here, was quite scary last night – we’ll have to see whether that white stuff arrives :)
Thank you! I have to admit that I’m starting to favour the snow, when I look at the weather in the UK :) The wee girl just hates gloves, she only relents when her hands are burning with the cold :)
What a wonderful little project for them, I’ve always wanted to go inside and igloo. Fingers crossed your boys will be able to go inside their very own one!
Part of me hopes the snow will still be there when we get back from holiday so that we can try and finish it :)
How good are those bricks! I love the snow and would love to do this with the boys but living int he south of england it’s not likely #countrykids
We were lucky to be able to do this! I think that they will be fun on the beach too though :)
That is just awesome really. My wee man loves the snow and we are actually thinking of venturing to the hills to find some soon as supposedly there is loads!

They didn’t have time to finish it before we headed off on holiday,but it still seems to be snowing, so they might be able to when we get back :)
