#CountryKids – sword fights and jousting

I will admit that this week hasn’t been the best for outdoor time. Entirely down to me! It’s been freezing and windy, and I’ve been choked with the cold. I’ve endured the school run, but I’ve insisted that the kids get straight inside when we get home!

But, I felt better today, and with both the wee girl and the 4yo at home I couldn’t keep them cooped up all day. We still had the school run to do, but I always feel that’s enforced rather than fun!

So, I steeled myself; got coats and shoes on us all; and headed out into the garden. Ostensibly, it was to let the wee girl have a go on her new balance bike, which we gave her for her birthday, but the poor bike didn’t get a look in when she found a sword…

And then found a stick!

Then the 4yo decided to joust…

Then it was time to make another potion, just because :)

And, although the bike may not have got a look in this morning, the 4yo’s scooter was a big hit…

  1. I am so glad you braved the cold to let them have a little outside time. Just look how much they are enjoying themselves here. It always surprises me if you leave kids alone with a few props around what they will find to do, they look quite absorbed in their play here. Thank you for sharing on Country Kids and glad to hear you are past the worst of your cold too.

They were completely absorbed for ages! And, it was lovely because it wasn’t what I had expected them to do :) Thanks for hosting x

A musketeer and a knight protecting your garden! It’s great how kids can have the best times outside using their imagination…and some props!

  3. I don’t blame you for staying indoors whilst it is still freezing outside. Well done for braving the cold yesterday though! It looks like the little ones had a lot of fun. Mel

  4. Love the new look of your blog btw :) Looks like your little girl enjoyed the jousting too! T also loves playing with swords whenever her best friend F is around. #CountryKids.

Ha ha loving the pictures of the swords and ousting! Sounds like a lovely fun little outing! We are full of colds in our house at the moment so I understand the wanting to stay indoors! Glad you felt a bit better and managed to get out, as this was a lovely post! xx #countrykids

Thank you, I’d been a complete wimp the rest of the week, so it was definitely time to get outside :)

Thanks! It certainly wasn’t what I had in mind when we went outside, but they had fun :)

Thank you :) The wee girl has a surprisingly professional technique… Only slightly worrying! Feeling much better now, thank you x

  6. It can be hard to stand around in the cold somedays can’t it, even though our children aren’t bothered by it! It looks like they had great fun when they got out. It’s amazing the things that keep them amused isn’t it.
