I will admit that this week hasn’t been the best for outdoor time. Entirely down to me! It’s been freezing and windy, and I’ve been choked with the cold. I’ve endured the school run, but I’ve insisted that the kids get straight inside when we get home!
But, I felt better today, and with both the wee girl and the 4yo at home I couldn’t keep them cooped up all day. We still had the school run to do, but I always feel that’s enforced rather than fun!
So, I steeled myself; got coats and shoes on us all; and headed out into the garden. Ostensibly, it was to let the wee girl have a go on her new balance bike, which we gave her for her birthday, but the poor bike didn’t get a look in when she found a sword…
And then found a stick!
Then the 4yo decided to joust…
Then it was time to make another potion, just because :)
And, although the bike may not have got a look in this morning, the 4yo’s scooter was a big hit…
I’m linking up with the wonderful Country Kids at Coombe Mill again this week. Click on the badge to see what everyone else has been up to and be inspired to get outside!

Excellent! You can’t beat a stick or a scooter #countrykids
Exactly :)
I am so glad you braved the cold to let them have a little outside time. Just look how much they are enjoying themselves here. It always surprises me if you leave kids alone with a few props around what they will find to do, they look quite absorbed in their play here. Thank you for sharing on Country Kids and glad to hear you are past the worst of your cold too.
They were completely absorbed for ages! And, it was lovely because it wasn’t what I had expected them to do :) Thanks for hosting x
A musketeer and a knight protecting your garden! It’s great how kids can have the best times outside using their imagination…and some props!
It is, isn’t it? It wasn’t at all what I was expecting to happen :)
fabulous pictures, i love your little girls expressions! sorry been a bit absent lately, just doing a prompt post for you this week. Ill get back into it xx
Hey! No worries, we all need a break sometimes :) Would be lovely to see you on #ThePrompt x
Awww.. they look like they had fun =)
#countrykids
They really did :)
Brilliant, clearly who needs a new balance bike when you can have swords, sticks and your brother’s scooter?!
Absolutely :)
There’s not much better than swords and sticks for kids is there? Hoping the weather gets better for you soon!
Thank you, there really isn’t :)
I don’t blame you for staying indoors whilst it is still freezing outside. Well done for braving the cold yesterday though! It looks like the little ones had a lot of fun. Mel
Thank you, they did! I am so looking forward to some warmer weather :)
Scooter Jousting!! Love it, think that could catch on #CountryKids
Thanks!
Looks like lots of fun! The look on the wee girl’s face when she’s playing with her sword is just priceless :)
Thanks, she was having a lot of fun :)
Love the new look of your blog btw :) Looks like your little girl enjoyed the jousting too! T also loves playing with swords whenever her best friend F is around. #CountryKids.
Thank you :)
Yay, sticks, swords and potions just like our house. Hope the weather improves soon.
Hours of entertainment!
You cannot go wrong with sticks! My kids are always drawn to swords, too – lots of fun! Lovely photos x
Thank you! Very little beats sticks :)
Ha ha loving the pictures of the swords and ousting! Sounds like a lovely fun little outing! We are full of colds in our house at the moment so I understand the wanting to stay indoors! Glad you felt a bit better and managed to get out, as this was a lovely post! xx #countrykids
Thank you, I’d been a complete wimp the rest of the week, so it was definitely time to get outside :)
Chilly weather . Brr! Like all the sword and jousting fun. Bet you had planned on that one. Her face is priceless! Hope the weather warms up a bit for you. #CountryKids
Thanks! It certainly wasn’t what I had in mind when we went outside, but they had fun :)
I love that she’s waving the sword around so confidently, she’ll definitely be giving her brothers a run for their money.
#countrykids
That she will!
They look complete pros with their swords and all that jousting! Hope you’re feeling a lot better now.
Thank you :) The wee girl has a surprisingly professional technique… Only slightly worrying! Feeling much better now, thank you x
Bracing! Glad to see you got out :) Well done mummy, you get a virtual awesome mummy award from me.
Thank you :)
So lovely when they create their own adventures, glad you are feeling a bit better x
Thank you x
It can be hard to stand around in the cold somedays can’t it, even though our children aren’t bothered by it! It looks like they had great fun when they got out. It’s amazing the things that keep them amused isn’t it.
I know, it takes so little to keep them entertained :)
I’m glad you’re feeling better and got to enjoy some outdoors time with them :)
Thank you, it was lovely watching them have so much fun!
