Happy Halloween everyone! It’s been a busy day for us :)
Every year the boys’ school does a Halloween Parade, so that was our first event of the day. The wee girl was very excited to see her brothers walk past… although there was a moment where she clearly didn’t recognise the 8yo, a fully masked ninja. The small yelp and jump when he ran over to give her a hug shouldn’t have amused me quite so much!
The 5yo is Snake Eyes from GI Joe, apparently?! Can’t say I was familiar with that one!
After the parade we had 40 minutes to kill before the end of school. I could have taken the wee girl to the 8yo’s Halloween party but decided a run around the park was a better idea (and kinder to the 8yo’s class and teacher – a hyper, orange clad two year old would probably have been the proverbial straw).
Then, the highlight of the day for the younger children of the town; the Chamber of Commerce Trick or Treat at the local businesses. The main street is closed downtown and given over to the kids, and all the shops hand out candy to very happy, entertainingly costumed children.
Our lot were more than ready to go and collect their share of the candy!
Despite the wee girl telling any one that would listen today that she was going to cut the head off a pumpkin and put all the candy in it, she announced that it was time to go home as soon as she had her first piece in her pumpkin basket! We persuaded her to carry on for a little longer for her brothers’ sake!
We didn’t stay for quite as long as in previous years, for which I am thankful as we brought home a lot less candy (last years haul from Halloween lasted until about a week ago…). We did however have three satisfied children as we walked back to the car.
These two have now gone out trick or treating again…
I expect a large amount of candy to be acquired! And to welcome home two very tired, happy boys :)

Fab! Really interesting to read about Halloween in America. We think it’s got really big over here, but it’s still not caught America up.
My kids usually get enough sweets to last them until Christmas, but didn’t get anywhere near as much this year – most of our old neighbours are too elderly to have the kids call round now :(
It’s incredible how much effort goes into it here! I didn’t do nearly as much this year, the house has been taking up my energy, but the kids still had a great time :)
Wow! Even seeing it for myself I still can’t get how amazing Halloween is in the States. That’s the problem I find here – it’s half embraced and too scary for me – I love the range of costumes in the states! And the candy is great :)
The house is now full of candy :) It’s a great event here and really geared towards the kids x

Yes Wee Girl’s outfit is sooo cute! :0) I have to say I wonder about the sense of trick or treating when it involves so much bloomin’ sugar! The husband got this huge bucket of sweets to give to trick or treaters and we didn’t get a single one so you know what’s going to happen to it now don’t you?! I do love an insight to American Halloween traditions though – last year we had friends who were living in New York for part of a two-year stint and they posted photos of the most amazing decorations on all the old brownstones up there in Brooklyn – they really go to town on it there!! X #countrykids
I have to admit I didn’t do too much this year (actually anything!), but some houses are amazing! People really do go to a lot of effort :)
Now, this kind of organised trick or treating I can handle-everyone in the community getting involved. I love your approach to the wee girl and being the proverbial straw at the party-think you may well have got that one spot on! x
Yes, it is great, it’s so organised and great fun for the kids. And, the wee girl would definitely have been the straw :)
Your Halloween day looks as jam packed as ours, I love that there’s a parade put on by the school for the kids to show off their costumes. I love how Wee Girl was going to fill up her pumpkin and then decided one was enough, that’s a sensible girl! We missed it last night as we dont really have neighbors, we live in the center and neighbors are shops that closes after work. Would have been nice if we have something like this here =) #countrykids

What a fun Halloween! I would love to visit America for Halloween one year, they really do go all out don’t they and it certainly looks like you are all embracing the festivities! Your little lady looks so cute too!

That looks definitely like a fun-filled Halloween! And my, all that sweets! We just arrived from our trip this Halloween, so didn’t have much time to prepare. Barely had enough time to put little T in her costume before our doorbell started ringing! Btw, the kids looks so cute in their costumes! :) #whatsthestory.
Thank you Dean, they did get a lot of sweets, but the novelty does wear off :)
Ah I just love wee girl’s outfit! Interesting to read about halloween in the states – there was a fair amount going on here, but nothing quite as well organised. I love the idea of the main street being toga;;y taken over by costumed children! x

Sounds like you had a fun time. The bit about the wee girl shrieking at the ninja giving her a hug made me chuckle too. Looks like she had a lot of fun at the park too. Love the sound of organised handing of out sweets too. Hope your boys enjoyed going out trick or treating.

It sure looks like you had a great time! I wish Halloween was celebrated more in Australia… Never mind! I love getting involved with all the craft activities and looking at photos of the great costumes!
The kids had a fab time! We were a bit lax on the crafting this year, but the kids enjoyed the day :)
A Halloween parade is such a great idea for all the children to show off their costumes. We have something similar in France for Shrove Tuesday and I have fond memories of walking around my village waving at family, friends and neighbours. Your little ones look like they had such a great time!
They did have a great time, the whole day was geared around Halloween!
