One Hundred Years

IMG_3712.JPG

It’s something of a milestone isn’t it? One hundred years on this earth.

Born at the start of a war. Lived through another and another…

Witness to a changed and ever changing world, but always ready to embrace the new.

My grandmother.

Still as sharp, as interesting, as vocal.

Frustrated by a body betrayed by age.

Remembering too many, but remembered by many more.

Generations to follow, stories to be passed.

A 100th birthday is something to celebrate. And, boy, was it celebrated. Bells rang and sang in town, a red carpet rolled out as welcome, a party held, gifts presented. A card from the Queen, a Papal Blessing. A video message from Daniel O’Donnell; the winner I suspect.

A hundred years, hard to comprehend. So many memories, so many people, so many lives encountered and influenced.

A milestone indeed. And, I am so glad I was able to celebrate with her; I wouldn’t have missed it.

Wishing my amazing grandmother a very happy 100th birthday.

  1. Wow, what an age to achieve. Happy 100th birthday to your grandmother. She must have many a story to tell about what she’s seen throughout her life. Popping in from Magic Moments.

  3. Happy Birthday to your Grandma. One of my grandmothers made it to 100 which I think is really special. The other one is still going strong so who knows maybe she will too.

I have a Great Aunt of 98 that I’m sure has more of her marbles left than the rest of us. She makes me laugh when she talks about visiting her friends in the “old people’s home.” Thank you for sharing Sara, bet she was filled with joy to see you on this special day :) x
