Country Kids: a Cub Scout hike

A Cub Scout Hike

Last weekend was a busy one. Swim classes, a birthday party, lots of domestic and DIY stuff to catch up on. Not a lot of time for to get some fresh air or spend any time together as a family; while not running an errand anyway!

So, when it came time for the 8yo to head off to join his Cub Scout Pack for a hike in the Middlesex Fells Reservation, we all went along. The Fells is a large area of woodland about five miles north of Boston and not far from our house. There are many different trails throughout the Fells; for walkers, cyclists and horse riders; and we have walked quite a few of them.

The trail we took with the Scouts was a new one to us though and it was a lovely walk; just what we all needed to blow away the cobwebs and forget about the to-do list for a couple of hours.

There has been a lot of rain, so there were quite a lot of flooded paths!

And as is common around here, there was a lot of rock to negotiate.

Remarkably, there are not just photos of the wee girl with daddy on this walk…

…there are some with mummy too!

We were out for almost two hours; walking, jumping, running, climbing, splashing. There were big sticks to be found to use as walking sticks and unexpected streams to be crossed and trail maps to be read. The kids had a great time, and the Scouts only got us a little lost :)

It’s been too long since we managed to fit in a proper family walk like this. Weekends have been busy and the weather a little temperamental. It felt good to be out, all of us together; enjoying the fresh air, the beautiful woods and the daft chatter!

I’m linking up with the wonderful Country Kids at Coombe Mill, as always. Click on the badge to see what everyone else has been up to and be inspired to get outside!

  1. That looks like a wonderful walk and so nice to see some photos of you out and about too – am guessing you are usually the one behind the camera! :-)

  2. Potty Mouthed Mummy

This looks like such a lovely day out! Look at those crisp leaves, gorgeous colours xx

  3. This looks like a fab walk! It’s great when sometimes you think let’s just drop everything and escape as a family for a couple of hours, it really refreshes everyone. Those are some BIG puddles, it looks like wee girl had a good time jumping in them. It’s great to see some shots of you with wee girl, uncommon when you’re usually the one behind the camera! Thanks for linking up with Country Kids.

It is nice to just go for a walk, no major planning or activities, just enjoying being outdoors.
