I didn’t think I’d manage a Country Kids post this week… It has been getting gradually colder, and with Thursday morning’s school run completed in -19C (with a ‘feels like’ of -29C) I suspected I was to be defeated!
I have a post about some holiday fun ready and waiting for the week that the weather really does defeat me (which is bound to happen!) and I was expecting to use it; but then today it snowed… And while the temperature still hasn’t made it above freezing, it’s not quite so painfully cold.
The wee girl spent the morning jumping up and down exclaiming it’s snowing, it’s snowing! Her enthusiasm is hard to ignore and after lunch, when it had stopped and a good layer of snow was covering the garden, it was time to release her and let her expend some of that pent up enthusiasm.
After a tentative start down the steps, she was off, jumping and making footprints…
Next came investigation: could she pick up the snow, what had been buried in it, why were things ‘stuck’…?
Of course, anything can become a spade to scoop up snow…
But sometimes, hands are better, even those encased in mittens…
And of course, a snow pie must be patted and poked and made just right…
Before being presented to mummy for inspection…
And, then… taste testing, of course!
The actual creation of the snow pie took some time, and I left her too it while she scooped and transferred and scooped some more. Several pots and tubs, as well as the Frisbee, were used and the garden didn’t look quite so prettily snow covered when she was finished.
But, that happy face says it all. What can beat a snow pie?

A snow pie looks like an awful lot of fun to make and taste on a winter’s day. Sadly we don’t have the key ingredient for the recipe anymore – although I’m glad I’m missing the -19 temps!
Yeah, I don’t mind the snow, but I could definitely live without the extreme cold :)
Gorgeous post! Look at her happy face and rosy cheeks, this is so what Country Kids is all about. I’m loving how independent she is now, happily discovering for herself and creating, just brilliant, you must be very proud. Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids and I hope the cold temperatures ease up soon.

Oh I love the photos of the wee girl making her snow pies – the look of delight on her face is so wonderful. I can’t imagine it being that cold – hope you’re managing to stay warm in spite of the freezing weather.

School run becomes and drive by/drop off situation, kids get taken straight into the building!

I can’t get over the snow on your part of the world! Looks beautiful and cold. Little T has been hoping for snow, but then again, it never really snows down here in our part of Cornwall and if ever it does, it’s only a dusting. Your little girl is growing up so fast! So cute. #countrykids.
We’ve been lucky (?) and not had too much snow yet, just enough for the kids to have some fun with :) She is getting big, isn’t she!
