Our trip to the UK in April was blessed with wonderful weather. This made for a rather different experience than the previous two years when we traveled in February!
We were able to play tourist in Edinburgh, visiting the Royal Botanic Garden and Edinburgh Castle.
The rest of the time we spent wandering, enjoying the sunshine.
As I’m sure you can imagine a trip to the UK for us is very much things to do, people to see!
So, we often had to split up. While I was off catching up with friends, or taking the 8yo to catch up with his friends, my husband kept the kids busy and they had some wonderful adventures!
They went to Holyrood park, investigating…
Rolling…
And running…
One evening the 8yo and his dad climbed to the top of Salisbury Crags…
Upset at missing out on this trip, the 6yo and the wee girl were able to join in a mini climb another day…
We all enjoyed wandering the High Street, one of my favourite parts of Edinburgh…
We had fun with statues…
Painted doors…
And funny mirrors!
The kids enjoyed many an ice cream, and had fun playing at the pools in front of the Parliament Building…
It was a wonderful trip, full of sunshine and memory making. Lots of our photos are just snapshots, catching moments as they happened. But, each one makes me smile.
I love Edinburgh; it is where I grew up and where I ultimately intend to return. Our trip in April allowed us to see it at its best, and we loved every minute of it!
I’m linking up with the wonderful Country Kids at Coombe Mill, as always. Click on the badge to see what everyone else has been up to and be inspired to get outside!

What gorgeous photos of your children enjoying spending time in Edinburgh. I love the one of them all sitting on the rock together and the last photo – just gorgeous. That view from Salisbury Crag is stunning :-)
Thank you, we were so luck with the weather, and I love that last photo too x
Great snapshots of your visit home. Looks like lots of fun. Especially adore the hill rolling photos x
Thank you, it was a wonderful week x
Shhhh, don’t tell my Glaswegian wife, but I quite like Edinburgh. Seems like you had a lot of fun. As it happens we’ve never visited as a family. I shall have to persuade my wife to drop her loyalties for a day next time we’re north of Hadrian’s Wall. You’ve given me some ideas as to where we should visit. #CountryKids
I lived in Glasgow for four years, and I love it, but if I had to choose, Edinburgh would definitely win :)
Looks so beautiful and so much fun. I can imagine how busy the trip was catching up with people, so it’s lovely that you all had time to explore and wander, too x
It was lovely, it made such a difference, it felt like we’d actually had a holiday!
You know, your photo’s and my photos of a return trip to Edinburgh could pretty much be identical! Really enjoyed these-all places I know so very well :) xx
I’m sure they could be, I thought you might like these ones :)
when the weather is with you i think april and May in Scotland are beautiful, sounds like a trip that made you long for home one day and really appreciate all that is here. I love the mini adventures too, a great way to spread yourselves and do all the catching up you planned. thank you for sharing some gorgeous family photos on Country Kids.
Thanks Fiona, it can be a really beautiful time of year (often better than the summer!) and we certainly made the most of it :)
Love your photos of Edinburgh, especially the one of the kids posing like a statue ;) #countrykids.
Thank you Dean x
I’m glad to see you guys had time to relax and enjoy some familiar places on your trip over here. Great shots. What amazing views from Salisbury Crags! I’ve been to Edinburgh a few times visiting friends but have clearly missed some wonderful places. Love the shots of the kids together, such cuties!
There is a lot to do in Edinburgh :)
I’ve never been there before but it looks like a stunning place.
Looks like you all had a great time too! Love family days out.
We had a wonderful time, thank you x
I’m glad you enjoyed such wonderful weather for your trip! Looks like you had a great time. I’ve been to Edinburgh a couple of times and would love to visit again. Such a lovely city! #whatsthestory
It is a beautiful city x
Lovely picture. Often all the kids need is a bit of green space to run around! I’m glad you had a good trip back to the UK. Thanks for linking with #sharethejoylinky

Thanks! They do have their moments :)
Looks like you had some great weather. Love the pics – especially the statue one and the 3 of them hugging.
I love Edinburgh too. We visited when I was 7.5m pregnant and had a lovely trip. I’d love to go back and take N to see all the bits we didn’t see before.
Every time I see one of your posts from Edinburgh I say to myself I need to go there, it looks like such a great place to go exploring with children. Looks like you had an amazing time and so great it was sunny, and look at those hills right behind the parliament building!! Beautiful just beautiful, thank you for linking up to #magicmoments.
