My darling boy, what can I tell you, now you are nine?
You are funny and kind and thoughtful.
You are bright and interested and interesting.
You are a wonderful big brother; the 6yo looks up to you and the wee girl adores you.
You make us so proud…
…making a commitment to Cub Scouts and approaching every activity with such enthusiasm.
…getting on to the swim team and going to every practice, ready to do your best.
…taking up new challenges when given the opportunity; playing the clarinet and recorder, taking part in the school talent show with your friends.
…approaching your first formal exams with a level head, and working hard.
…looking after your brother and sister, making sure they are safe and happy.
You love to help and thrive when trusted to do a task alone.
You are sensible and considerate and responsible; you are growing up.
You are starting to show us the young man you will become; if we can all survive the tween and teen years, we have a lot to look forward to!
We began the celebrations for your birthday with a party for you and your best friends at the weekend. You enjoyed exploring the garden, eating pizza and watching a movie.
You declared your cake awesome, and I am so glad that you were pleased with it!
With your birthday falling on a school day, present opening and cake waited until after school (and was squeezed in before taking your mum to the airport for her flight to London for BritMums… Thank you for understanding!)
You opened each card with such care, reading them all carefully. This is the first year you’ve done this, cards previously being forgotten in the rush to open presents!
There was a strong book theme to your presents; with fantasy and Greek mythology taking the lead. Trying to keep you in books is proving difficult at the moment, you devour them, which is wonderful to see. Hopefully this new collection will keep you going for a while. A couple of new science kits should keep you occupied too :)
Then came your main presents. One you had asked for…
… Bat boxes! [yes, really, we have bats in the garden!]
And one that was a complete surprise…
I think you might be pleased with it :)
We finished with an ice cream cake, a special treat…
I can’t believe another year has passed, and that you are now officially a tween.
You are past my shoulder in height, it won’t be long before you catch up with me, and I fully expect your feet to over take mine very shortly!
You suddenly look so much older. You carry yourself differently. Perhaps it’s the swimming, perhaps it’s simply the confidence that comes with good friends and good times. Whatever it is, you are growing up before my eyes.
You continue to make us proud every day and we love you more than I can say. We can’t wait to see what the next year brings.
Happy birthday, beautiful boy.
