The Museum of Scotland is one of my favourite buildings, as much for the architecture (of both the new and the old parts) as for the collections, which are fabulous. This photo was taken on our recent visit to Edinburgh, in the original part of the building.
Once upon a time there were fish ponds in here, and I would always stop and sit awhile, watching the fish swim in their lazy circles.
As part of the redevelopment and expansion, the fish went. It’s a sore point with many long-time visitors to the museum!
Wow what a stunning building – so much to look at in this picture and works beautifully in black and white – love how it brings out all the detail as well as the light and shadows.
What a beautiful roof, it almost looks like one of those fancy roofs you sometimes see in the Australian outback towns with the gorgeous ironwork (or maybe that’s just me!) xx

Wow what a beautiful building, not sure why these busy body manager types feel the need to make changes like this. It makes for a great picture though and it’s made me want to come up and visit Scotland even more now :) #bwphotoproject
Beautiful – I’m imagining that in Edwardian times when the ladies would take a walk, indoors of course so as not to tan their delicate skins :) Ironwork is always great in black and white, and this one’s no different x #bwphotoproject
This looks like a lovely place to just sit and contemplate. Sorry about the fishes. Were they able to replace it with an alternative (perhaps a water feature of some sort or a lofty art piece) to appease the guests?
