The B&W Photography Project: Kings Cross Station

Kings Cross Station

This photo is an interior shot of one of the new parts of Kings Cross Station in London. When I left London ten years ago the refurbishment hadn’t started. Each time I have gone back since, another section of the Kings Cross St Pancras redevelopment has been completed, giving me a rather disjointed view of the overall project!

I love exposed structure like this, and railway stations often provide wonderful opportunities to photograph strong and expressive structural elements.

I published this photo as part of my 365 project with a simple black and white filter, the standard PicMonkey one, without any other tinkering. It was okay, but a bit flat. However, it was the first time one of my photos was ‘auto awesomed’ by Google! So, I took another look at it and I have tinkered with it a bit more this time, improving (I hope!) the contrast and definition of the structure.

I’m joining in with Week 1 of Charly’s Black and White Photography Project over on PODCast. I often play with black and white filters, and I love black and white photography. Looking forward to joining in with this project!

  1. Awesome photograph Sara I love it! Must be nice to visit Kings Cross again after so long. I must go take a peek as I pass through there 3 days a week now. Did walk from Farringdon to Waterloo on Friday mind *sore thighs*

Thank you so much for joining in, hope you having a great weekend #bwphotoproject

Thanks Charly, it’s been lovely going back and seeing it finished. Love St Pancras too!

  2. The lines in this photo are wonderful, I’m hoping that next Britmums will give me a bit of time to do some photography of well known places like this.

Popping over from the B&W Photo Project.

No worries, I did wonder :) I think we’ve all left slightly random comments at one time or another :)

  3. This is a stunning picture Sara. The angle you’ve taken it at, the filter, everything, it’s just great. Loving Charly’s new photography project – it has already prompted me to really think about subject matter and how I take the picture. X #bwphotoproject

  4. That ceiling is the perfect candidate for a black and white shot isn’t it? Really like the angle :)
