November has passed in a blur, the changing of the season amplified by change elsewhere. My normal love of autumn replaced by the need to simply get through it.
Fall is my favourite season. I love the transitions, from summer to fall and then to winter. It is a time of positive change; the greens of summer giving birth to a riot of rich colour, a last burst of life before the cold of winter.
There is joy in the changing seasons; hope and renewal.
Autumn is special. Glorious coloured leaves against clear blue skies. Crisp mornings with a freshness that clears the mind. Brisk walks through blankets of crunchy leaves.
This year though, it has been tinged with sadness. My senses more attune to the ending of things than the potential inherent in nature getting ready for its winter slumber.
But, even as my writing has focused on life and loss, and the terrible sadness of saying goodbye, I have been mindful of appreciating the little things.
Of finding the joy, even in the saddest of moments.
Of the fact that even when our view of life is blurred by circumstance, beauty remains to be seen.
And, goodness, what beauty there has been.
I try to see change as a positive thing. To embrace the opportunities that it brings.
Sometimes change comes at a cost, and the sadness of it can threaten to overwhelm. Sometimes we need to cling a little harder to things that bring us happiness.
A walk in the sunshine, the beauty of golden leaves against a bright blue sky, laughter with friends, hugs from our children.
So, as we move into December and fly towards Christmas, I will be focusing on the little things that make me smile.
And, as the season changes again I will be making changes of my own.
It’s time to let go of the stuff that doesn’t matter and make room for the stuff that does.

A beautiful post with beautiful photographs. Sadness changes to endurance and finally acceptance in the end but it is never quite all-right again – something is irretrievably lost. I hope you find peace and the good that endures in spite of the sadness.
Thank you x Things will never be quite the same, but despite that there is so much to be thankful for x
