A moment wasted.
An image forever burnt,
behind eyes tight shut,
of my failure to capture,
or understand, the meaning.

This is my first attempt at a Tanka, inspired by my writer friend Cara, who blogs over at Cara L McKee, and is currently undertaking a Tanka Project (head over and have a read of her wonderful poems). I don’t generally follow poetic structures (in this case a 5/7/5/7/7 syllable structure, a bit like a long Haiku), and I don’t think I quite managed the ‘turn’ after line three, but it was fun trying!

Love it, and I wonder if it’s Freudian that you’ve got the word ‘failure’ where the turn should be Could I share this on the Instagram @tanka_project feed please? Thank you for joining in!
Thank you Cara, and you may well be right on my use of the word :) And, yes, of course you can share it, that would be lovely xx
