In a fit of hopefulness that spring might finally be around the corner, I thought it was time to do a little catch up on our winter!
After the snow in January, our next major snowfall happened in February. One day we were walking at Breakheart Reservation in the sunshine and the next we were sledding after six inches of snow fell over night!
The kids’ cousin was staying with us and it was a perfect white snow, blue sky day. I’m not often terribly grateful for the snow, but on this occasion the timing was spot on.
My husband and younger son created an epic sled run starting at the highest point of the garden and snaking all the way down to the driveway. A lot of fun was had!
I wasn’t sad to see it melt quickly though, and we then enjoyed a mini-heatwave over the rest of February vacation! New England at its crazy weather best.
Then March happened.
The first storm brought rain and winds, bringing trees down and knocking power out for many. The second storm brought a significant snow fall, and a lot of heavy wet snow which caused more damage to trees. Including those in our garden.
Thankfully, none of the downed tree branches damaged anything, and for this storm my husband was actually here. Not always the case when it comes to snowstorms. And wasn’t for the next one, as it happens!
There was plenty of snow to play with, the kids got a snow day, and everything was back to normal by the following morning.
Snowmen were built and the snow paints came out.
My little girl would spend all day in the snow if she could, begging to go out from the moment she wakes up. I draw the line if the snow is coming down particularly heavily, but otherwise, out she goes.
The cold doesn’t seem to bother her, and she always looks ridiculously happy sitting the snow.
The snow is beautiful, especially against blue skies, but I do hope that we have had our last snow fall of the season. Our final storm was a crazy one, with 20″ of snow (photos to follow in Part 2!), and I think we’ve had enough snow now.
Spring better hurry up and arrive!

I do always marvel at the amount of snow you get. It looks so picture postcard pretty and so much can fall in a day. It makes our couple of inches look a little tame! Wow to the long sled run and the coloured snowman. I know you will be posting hot weather photos way ahead of me too!

Now that’s what I call proper snow! We did also had snow here in North Cornwall late March and since it rarely ever snows here it was a lovely surprise for the kids :) #countrykids
Stunning photos! I do like seeing the snow but am completely done with it now. Thankfully we seem to have had the first sunny Spring day in the UK today and it feels like it has been a long time coming! Hope you have your Spring weather soon too!
