I wrote a post about my wee girls first words a few months ago.
She is now almost 18 months old and her language is coming on in leaps and bounds, and lest I forget the cute and funny language development moments I want to record where she is now.
She has now graduated from Daddy to Mummy. Daddy is Mummy, Granny is Mummy, our wonderful neighbour is Mummy… I think this is lovely, Daddy is not so impressed!
Her favourite toy rabbit has moved from being babi to rabbi. Emphatically so! All other animals are still woo woos!
She has discovered dolls… She now has two, and the word bay-bee is very definite.
She has also discovered shoooss (shoes) – and picked her first pair of sparkly ones last week… She also has toess and a noe (nose).
She loves baws (balls) and is often heard telling us to shhh!
We encouraged ta, and she got that, but has already moved on to dan-doo (thank you) – without prompting :)
Yeah and yay continue to be used often, in response to most questions! No has also reared it’s head though… Very strongly!
Hiya is now often hello, and we still have ba-bye.
She also says na-nigh (night night), which is generally followed by a kiss – so sweet!
More is one of her most used words… Accompanied by the Sign! Just to be sure we understood :)
She sings nappy-appy-appy when she wants her nappy/diaper changed… And now gleefully tells me she’s having/had a poooo!
And, she’ll tell us when she wants a ba (bath), while pointing at the stairs!
Up-pah (the P suddenly becoming very pronounced!) is now used for lots of instructions. More recently dow (down) and o-pah (open) have joined – she does like to give instructions :)
I was counting her towards a time out (!) the other day. I got as far as one. She finished it for me – doo, tee!
A few days ago she ran into the kitchen and said ah la loo (I love you) to my husband, he nearly cried :)
You can hear in her intonation that she’s starting to try and form sentences. The key word is understood, but the ‘wrapping’ words need to come along a bit.
Her comprehension though… No problems there! She can now follow simple instructions which is a big step forward and cuts down on frustration – she likes to help :)
She is prone to tantrums, and I hope that as her ability to communicate increases, her frustration will decrease… Well, I can live in hope!
[Update 23 March 2015: Today the wee girl turns three! It is wonderful to look back at this early stage in her language development, especially when I consider what a chatterbox she has turned into. The signs were all there, even at 18 months!]

So cute! My daughter’s first word was Dada. She didn’t really call me anything till she turned one. I can’t remember her next words though, what I remember though are her first two phrases which were “sun gone” and “rain stopped”. So apt since we live in England!
We had dada, then daddy, for such a long time! Very nice to her mummy! Love those phrases – definitely a child of the UK :)
So cute :) It’s such a lovely time for language isn’t it? The wrapping words will come in time, but sounds like she’s making herself very much understood!
It really is lovely to listen to – she’s picking up words daily now, and it’s wonderful! Such fun – I just love the ‘versions’ of words that they develop when they’re first starting to get them!

I know, most definitely toddlers now :) I love how each day at the moment brings new words (or versions of them!) – it’s a lot of fun :)
It’s lovely that you are recording the changes in language-they happen so fast don’t they. I’ve just been thinking about doing something similar-I need to go and get writing
Thank you. I didn’t do it with the boys, and I so wish I had. I can remember some of their first words and some particular phrases, but most of it is just a blur. The blog is wonderful for encouraging me to keep track and record more xx
Yes, I totally agree. I never recorded things like this for my daughter and really wish I had (although my mum’s got quite a few records of things in albums.) But the blog really helps.

those words are just adorable – a few are similar to my little girl (17 months) like the shoes one. We have ‘plash’ ‘plash’ (splash splash) instead of bath though as she loves splashing in the bath! xxx

I love the way you have recorded these words. Actually, I love baby language and am sure I didn’t help J’s development by sometimes mirroring it back to him! He also used to use a word like “bibi” and I never worked it out but wonder if it was a word for baby or one of this toys too.
Thank you! It’s a lovely time – other than the frustration when she can’t make herself understood! There are certain words and expressions that have found their way into our every day language from when the boys first starting talking!

i love the little quirks children have as they take their first steps into talking! You can probably expect to hear “No” a lot more, by the way :)
Oh, yes – it already seems to be becoming her favourite word!
