Country Kids: a week of fun in the sun

The weather this week has, on the whole, been fantastic! In fact, I’ve sounded (and looked!) very British over the last couple of days – temperatures have been in the 90s and I have been heard muttering the phrase ‘it’s too hot, I’m melting..!’. Despite feeling like I might melt, and despite my beet root face on the school run, I love it really – who wouldn’t want to be able to do the school run at 8am in shorts! Fabulous!

So, we’ve been out and about a fair bit – but have had to be a bit careful with my ghost like, fair skinned children :)

On Monday we went into Boston for the day and walked along the waterfront to the Children’s Museum. The boardwalk was lovely and the surroundings just stunning, with a clear blue sky for a back drop.

On Wednesday it did rain a bit in the morning, but that didn’t stop us from getting out in the garden, and one of my neighbours set up a horseshoe game for the boys. The 6yo wasn’t at all competitive…

There was much celebrating each time they got a ‘five pointer’… i.e. managed to hook the horseshoe around the stick! There were also some ninja moves and worms…!

Yesterday was the first day where the thermometer hit 90F! It was hot, hot, hot! I took the wee girl to the park on our way to pick up the boys – have to say that the heat doesn’t seem to be bothering her :)

Today was another scorcher! The 4yo, wee girl and I spent quite a bit of time in the garden – coming into the air conditioning to cool off (yes, we have air conditioning in our house…was a surprise to us too – but I’m so glad – even in my moments of environmental guilt!) We had a picnic and lots of fun with water pistols and bats and balls.

It’s been a wonderful outdoor week and I hope that this is a sign of what the rest of the summer will be like :)

I am linking up with the wonderful Coombe Mill’s Country Kids again this week. This is such a fab linky – encouraging us all to get outside with the kids and enjoy our surroundings. Click on the badge to see what everyone else has been up to!

  1. What a great week for you all – it’s lovely when the sun is shining and we can all spend so much time outside. I can tell by their happy faces that they had a week of fun and games, the horseshoe game looks fun as does the water pistols – a favourite with my gang. Thanks for sharing your lovely week with Country Kids.

  2. Lous Lake Views

Awww they all look like they are having so much fun! I’m enjoying the heat too this week. Boston looks great I’ve never been but hope to soon.

  3. such happy photos – your children all look so happy and appear to be having so much fun. see i would be moaning too, as i would find those temperatures too hot for everyday life, ok when sat by a pool in a swimsuit ! i would be grateful for air con too x x

    1. They’ve been enjoying all the outside activities, but the boys have been defeated by the heat a few times! I love being warm and wandering around in floaty dresses (!) but 90 really is just too hot to function! School run pushing a buggy is a killer!! A school friend of the 6yo told me I was sunburnt – I said, no… this is just what happens to a Scottish woman in this heat :) Thanks for reading xx

  4. Gorgeous pictures Sara. Your wee girl looks like such a happy happy soul. And I think it’s ok for you to have air conditioning – don’t feel guilty! Lovely post x

    1. Oh, she is! Although she also has a temper that needs to be seen to be believed :) Nobody would have slept for the last few days without the air conditioning, so I can’t feel too guilty! Thanks for reading xx

  5. Finally popping over after you left a comment on our blog (ethan’s escapades) and so glad I did. I have always wanted to live in the states and visit Boston so I will be adding you to my blog loving reading list. Look like you all had lots of fun outside this week ;0)

  6. So glad you have been having great weather and really taking advantage! Some lovely photos of all the action. Love the horseshoe ones definitely looks like good fun.

  7. Hi, what lovely photos. Beautiful images of your daughter in the park too. We have had lovely weather this weekend, so are making the most of it and getting outside. A bit of sun and no rain make a huge difference.
