Now that my 7yo has learned to ride his bike, we are trying to encourage him to practice.
The 4yo requires no encouragement to go out on his bike!
It is so lovely to finally see them cycling together. They are at ages now where they often want to do different things. The 7yo can get frustrated by the 4yo. The 4yo just desperately wants to follow his big brother. So, to see them both out on their bikes is wonderful.
The 4yo has been riding his bike confidently since he was two and a half (when he got it for Christmas!) and we really must take the stabilisers off! Now that his big brother is happily cycling, we can finally do this (we are sensitive to the 7yo’s ego on this one).
The wee girl was less impressed by the outing, poor bay-bee taking the brunt of her frustration! She is desperate to get on a bike too, and tries to climb on to the 4yo’s at any given opportunity. She will be getting a balance bike for Christmas :)
The enjoyment that the boys are now getting from cycling bodes well for family bike rides – my husband is a very keen cyclist, so this is making him extremely happy – and we’re looking forward to lots of exploring and lots of picnics!
Now, we just need to get me a bike and decide between a seat or a trailer for the wee girl :)

This is just like you see it in the movies! Big wide avenues… like in The Simpsons. Or Despicable Me. Or Desperate Housewives. Is life in the suburbs as peaceful in real life as it is portrayed?
It actually is! The first few weeks I was here, every time I walked anywhere I felt like I had stepped into Desperate Housewives. I think I’ve sort of got used to it now and don’t notice it as much, but it is really pretty :)
We love cycling. From your photos, you look like you have a really good environment for them all to learn. I can feel youngest’s frustrastion. Not long now.
It’s been great! The 4yo is definitely ready :) Give it another couple of weeks!
Aw look at his wee face, how cute is that picture of your 4 yr old just looking up at the camera. It’s lovely that you will all be able to cycle together, although I suspect your wee lady won’t be happy about being put in a seat or a trailer, she’ll want her own wheels beside her brothers, just to prove to those boys anything they can do she can do better :)
I think you’re absolutely right! Seeing her trying to climb on to the 4yo’s bike is hilarious! Definitely a balance bike for her :)

Ahh it looks like they are enjoying their bikes. We had a similar thing with our girls the youngest was raring to go and wanted her stabilisers off but the eldest was much less confident. In the end the eldest went first then about a week later the youngest ones came off. Xx
I suspect it won’t be long till we take the 4yo’s off now :)
What great wide pavements (sidewalks) for the children to ride along! It’s great that they have both mastered riding their bikes and are so confident. I’m sure the wee girl will soon master her balance bike to. As you say, great family days out with the bikes and a picnic will be an activity to look forward to. I so wish we could persuade Monkey to get on a bike – it makes me rather sad that he has no inclination to try it
Well, we bought the 7yo his first bike when he was four, and he wasn’t interested at all. It’s taken until now for him to choose to learn. Monkey will get there, we tried to push the 7yo and it didn’t work! Just take it slowly xx
How amazing to have those fabulous pavements to cycle on. The boys are doing so well with their cycling, especially your 4 YO. I’m sure your little lady will want her own wheels when she’s ready. POD’s not on a bike yet :)

love this! we love cycling in our family too. the kids love it and not so much complaining when we set off for a family outing!

They both look very confident there, and she looks desperate to get going on it! I’m rubbish at bike riding so don’t know what I’m going to do about overcoming this in the future.

I can ride a bike, but have to admit I’m not too confident on road! Prefer cycle paths :) The wee girl is desperate to get on a bike!
