Last weekend we were invited to a friends for a pool party; my kids idea of heaven!
Other than brief breaks for snacks and lunch, they spent the entire time in the water :)
The 6yo is becoming a much more confident swimmer and enjoyed playing with dive toys and the lilo! It was great to see him swimming and diving and even jumping off the diving board.
The 9yo had a great time, free from swimming laps for swim team he was able to just have fun. The lilo was a hit, but he spent a lot of time jumping!
The best thing though was watching the wee girl, who can now swim, not just independently, but is now flat in the water and kicking properly. Her swim float (which isn’t what she wears for lessons, but is needed when she’s swimming in this type of environment) hampers her arm movements a little, but she didn’t let that stop her and she had a fantastic time chasing her brothers and playing with the other children at the party. She particularly enjoyed throwing dive toys into the pool for the older children to swim for!
And although it doesn’t look like in the photos, there was always an adult close by! Pool safety is vital, and all of us are fully aware of the dangers and the signs of trouble. Living in a place where we spend much of the summer in and around water, we must be vigilant at all times. Few people in difficulty in the water splash or call out. Drowning is silent, and children often drown within feet of an adult. It’s important to remember this when watching children in the pool. Never take your eyes off them.

The kids had a fantastic time, and I absolutely love that we can spend so much time in the water, outdoors, over the summer. We really are very lucky.

It is a lovely way to spend the day, although I wouldn’t want the hassle of the pool itself, quite happy to go to friends :)
Looks like bliss, and perfect for a summer’s day. Floats are a pain aren’t they? At N’s swimming those who need them wear the float bars on a cord which ties round, then you remove the bars. I need to get him one of his own for going swimmming over the summer, but a lot aren’t adjustable which defeats the purpose of them really.
Floats are a pain, although the ones they use for classes at the Y here (‘bubbles’) aren’t too bad because they have to work quite hard with them and they don’t get in the way too much. The teachers gradually let the air out of them too, until they are swimming with no flotation (without realising!).
That pool party looks like so much fun and your trio certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves. I love the action shots of your 9yo jumping in. Always good to have a reminder of advice about water safety too.
They had a great time, and it was lovely to see them play together, they’re normally all doing their own thing!

What a fantastic party, of course they were going to adore that one! Nothing like friends with a pool, we have some too near the kids grandparents who always ask us over in the summer. It has been a family favourite day for years, made much more relaxed for me once they could all swim safely. Water safety was one of my big fears with the triplets, it was so hard to watch 3, I’m glad that stage is safely behind me now. Looks like Wee Girl is making great progress and still so young which is wonderful. Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids.
Until the wee girl was confidently swimming I was so scared of taking the three of them! The outdoor pool we go to is very well life guarded, so the boys are fine in there, which allows me to keep a really close eye on the wee girl! It still makes me nervous though x

Ah when I see pictures like this I realise how wonderful it would be to have a pool. We just never have the weather! You get such diverse weathers and temps out there don’t you? Love that the wee girl can swim now. She’s a star!
If my kids were a bit older, absolutely, but with little ones it’s too much responsibility and stress. It’s very nice to have friends who have them though :) The weather is definitely more extreme here! And, the wee girl is amazing in the water, very proud of her x
