My week that was [1/2]

My week that was

Last week I read a post on 29yearoldmama’s blog, linking up to Real Housewife of Suffolk County, describing her week.

As one of the main reasons I started this blog was to act as a journal of our time in the US, I thought that I would join in. This will hopefully encourage me to record more of the ‘small stuff’ as we weave our way through life in the States.

So, I may be a week behind, but here goes, my first week that was!

Monday
It was the start of our first full week back at school, so all about getting back into a proper routine. There was still a lot of snow, but the pavements weren’t so icy, so I decided to try a different approach to getting the three out the door and to school. Deciding this at 7.30am was probably not my smartest moment… My little girl went into the Ergo sling (for the first time, what was I thinking, there is a reason they send you a DVD to teach you how to put it on!), my three year old went into the buggy, and my six year old slipped along beside us. The Ergo battle was not helped by the pre-school deciding that 7.45am was an ideal time to send out an automated call to all parents explaining the new security procedures… But hey ho, we were only a little late, and I got an excellent workout (school run is a 1.5 mile round trip!). My little girl and I also had our first swimming class of the year.

Tuesday
Getting out the door was a little smoother on Tuesday, I think I’m getting the hang of the Ergo! Having decided that I was going to have an ‘at home’ and catch up a bit I remembered that I needed to buy birthday cards and a present, so I headed out and did that instead. I’m still getting used to the different shops, but I have a few that I know well enough now that the prospect of having to buy something specific isn’t quite so daunting.

Wednesday
My little girl and I had our first music/singing class for this term, she loves it! Especially the maracas, which she has finally learnt to shake rather than just chew… My eldest had his after school art class, so it was a bitty afternoon, out for 3yo, home, out for 6yo, home. And then of course a mad rush to get all the kids fed before bedtime (in an attempt to avoid meltdowns!).

Thursday
I have been asking my husband to take a day off to go to Ikea for about three months… He finally did (which I hugely appreciate) and we headed there as soon as we had dropped the boys to school. I had a list (I’m a list person, and I’d had this one for months!) and it was a very successful trip! We both went to pick the boys up from school, which they love – daddy hardly ever does drop off or pick up so it is a cause of great excitement :) The rest of the afternoon was spent doing homework and building Ikea furniture…

Friday
My three year old isn’t at pre-school on a Friday, so my neighbour very kindly dropped round and watched him and the baby so that I could just take the six year old to school – so much easier with just one of them…! Then we had a lovey lazy day :) My oldest had a play date after school and the mum dropped him back, so I didn’t even have to go out and do the school run pick up! Friday is pizza night, so kids in bed early and pizza and wine for the parents *and relax* (with a little Ikea furniture building thrown in)…!

Saturday
Bit of a mad day! I did some of the weekly food shop first thing, then walked into town so that the baby would take a nap while my husband took the boys to their swimming lessons. I managed to sneak in a wee cup of tea in Starbucks while little girl finished her nap, and then had her bottle! I then finished the food shopping, met the boys and headed home. The oldest then had a birthday party in the afternoon, so off he went to that. More building of furniture, then pick up. Kids to bed and collapse on sofa. After all that, it was a biscuits and cheese dinner for us!

Sunday
It was a fairly busy week, so we hadn’t managed to sit down properly as a family, so we had a proper breakfast together, very nice! And then… my husband left for a week long training course (arg!). The kids and I took it easy for the afternoon. I managed the hell that is dinner/bath/bed with a reasonable amount of success, well, they all went to bed and I didn’t have to shout (much…), so I count that as a win! Then, instead of writing this as I had intended to, I went to bed!

Please hop on over to Real Housewife of Suffolk County to check out her blog, how to link up and see how hers, and others, weeks went!
