My darling boy is now four! I can’t believe how time has flown. It seems like only yesterday that he arrived, screaming in protest at the bright lights in theatre. Thankfully, that wasn’t a sign of things to come and he is my cheery, happy, energetic little man. His fiery hair gave us an early clue to a fiery temperament – but in keeping with his joyful, twinkly personality, these outburst have always been short lived :) He is fearless, the only one of my three to crawl and climb (the other two went straight from bum shuffling to cruising!). He learnt to ride a bike before he was three and is a dab hand at DIY (I kid you not).
He deserved the best birthday possible and we made a weekend of it, made more special by the fact that Granny was here to help celebrate.
The morning of his birthday started with present opening. He excitedly ripped into his presents – the t-shirts being a particular hit. As a younger brother whose wardrobe consists mainly of hand me downs from his brother, he gets inordinately excited by new clothes bought ‘just for him’.

Then came his main present. A child of a techie household, with a big brother, he was playing Angry Birds and Cut the Rope by the time he was two and not just beating me (which doesn’t say a lot!) but his dad and brother too… So, we gave him his own DS (in part to end the fighting over his brothers…). The excited, blurry photo was when he realised that it was actually for him! Big brother then started the tutorials :)

After present opening the 4yo was allowed to choose breakfast, and went for pancakes. He enjoyed his with maple syrup while his brother went for Nutella and scooshy cream (as did I…!)

The 4yo had asked ages ago if he could go to Chuckie Cheese’s on his birthday, and despite this place being my idea of hell, we of course took him. Think soft play on steroids… lots of games machines (a bit like an arcade) in addition to a token climbing frame in one corner. You buy tokens for the games and win ‘tickets’ that can then be exchanged for plastic tat prizes! Needless to say, the boys love it!

Then it was the time to go home for cake (which was rather bluer than the tub of icing led me to believe).

The next day we had his birthday party. He had a few friends from his class at school and some other friends over – and they all had a great time. Hubby should have been a children’s entertainer in another life, and had them all running around, giggling their heads off playing games. Then it was time for food, which considering it was the middle of the afternoon, went down with more enthusiasm than I was expecting! And the cake that we had ordered from the local bakery was a huge success!

All in all it was a fabulous weekend!
So, Happy Birthday to my wee gorgeous. With your fiery hair, bright blue eyes, IKEA furniture building skills, speedy cycling and scooting moves, easy laugh and sunny personality, love you lots and lots and lots and lots… xxx
