Today was the 6yo’s field (sports) day. He was on the green team! In the way of all events at the school, getting fully into the spirit of things was the order of the day – green T-shirt, green hair, green face paint…
He isn’t the sportiest of kids – preferring competing on the computer to the playing field – but he is enthusiastic and joins in. I went along to support and cheer him on. I have to admit that I was a little concerned about him slowing his team up and the other kids giving him a hard time. I needn’t have worried – his whole class cheered everyone on, regardless of ability – it was a pleasure to watch. And, you know what, he did really well :) Proud mummy moment!
It was a perfect day for it, warm and sunny, but not too hot. A series of game stations had been set up around the playing fields and the kids moved round from one to the other – all scheduled to avoid confusion! There were sack races, 50 yard dash, bean bag throwing, long jump and lots more.
It was so well organised, the kids had a great time – and the focus was very much on ‘we’re all winners’. The teachers and volunteer parents did a fantastic job.
After the games were finished the kids all had lunch outside (pizza!) and were then treated to a BMX/skateboarding display and the Bubble Man :) I heard the phrase ‘best day ever!’ echoed around the field during the morning. There will have been a lot of tired, happy kids going to bed tonight – mine certainly was!
