I used to go running a few times a week. I loved it. I enjoyed the exercise. I enjoyed the alone time. I enjoyed the head space, the time to think, or to not think of anything at all.
Yesterday I went for a run, for the first time in *coughs* well over a year.
I knew it was going to be slow, but when it was already 28C at 8.30 in the morning, I knew it was going to be very slow!
I ran around Lake Quannapowitt. It’s a beautiful run.

It’s a 5km loop, and in the good old days that would have taken me somewhere around 34/35 minutes (I’m not the fastest, but I’m steady and can run for a long time at that pace!).
My aim yesterday was to do it in under 45 minutes – it took me 44! I ran/walked it. It was so hot! But, for me the main thing was that I did it – I made time for a run. When my husband offered to take the kids to the park so that I could, I said yes.
Being a busy stay at home mum to three doesn’t leave much time for me.
When I wrote my I am me post last month I was having a bit of a wobble. And, I still haven’t sorted out how to find some quality me time in my day/week.
I know that it’s a luxury when you have kids, and I don’t expect to swan off for days at a time! But, a few solo activities would definitely be nice.
I crave silence.
But I also miss meeting a friend for a coffee, child free. I miss going to the cinema – on my own, the ultimate luxury! I miss spending an afternoon reading, because I love the book and I just can’t put it down.
So, I am challenging myself to find more time for me – even if it’s just an hour with a book or a soak in the bath – to be able to look back each week and identify something that was solely for me.
I hope this is the first post entitled ‘Me time…’, not the only one!

I feel this is what I’m lacking, some me time. I’m not a runner, I need to get fitter so should start but we don’t have those beautiful views to run with. Don’t tell anyone but I miss work because of the me time!
The view definitely helps, but I always found that running around the streets of Edinburgh I wasn’t really aware of my surroundings, I just got into a ‘zone’ and focussed on that – and that was what I enjoyed, the silence, focus and ‘switching off’.
well done you for getting out there, its almost the main reason i do it, that and walking the dog. Love your views, much prettier than my streets and wheelie bins!!
Ah, I’m used to running around the wheelie bins! I just love the clear thinking time.
