As the weather continues to improve the wee girl asks to go outside at every available opportunity. I go outside, I go walking is a regular refrain.
More recently I want to draw has been added into the mix. She loves the sidewalk chalk and will spend ages drawing squiggles.
Generally her designs end up encircling her as she chooses each colour carefully and adds to the pattern. On occasion the chalk ends up in the water table, and then a whole new texture is added into the drawing experience. Often the boys will come and join in, but in the mornings while they are at school she will happily scribble, enjoying her time alone; calling to me to come see when she’s finished her creation. I love her look of deep concentration in this set of photos, she was so absorbed by her drawing, oblivious to all around her. I didn’t get a look in until she had finished.
Sidewalk chalk is wonderful stuff, we love it and have boxes and boxes of it. Great for a quick, easy activity; one that all three can join in with. The creative possibilities are endless; from scribbles and squiggles; to patterns, drawings and games!

I love the look of concentration and what a great box of chalks. This would be another great idea for my Coombe Mill Activity Hour, it covers a wide age range from the very young which is perfect. It is a lovely idea isn’t it and both my two enjoy it, despite the age difference. I love it especially as it’s outdoors and the rain clears away the mess for me :)

We have a tub of chlaks by the back door. It is used so often. I love this kind of chalk as it is chunky, making it harder to break. It will be interesting to see her chalk drawings develop. Beautiful photos of pure concentration. #CountryKids

She’s definitely deep in concentration. We’d got some pavement chalk, but not yet used it on the patio. I’m not sure the OH would be pleased about it even though it would get washed away. Maybe we’ll need to get it out soon – might be a way to get N more interested in writing and letter shapes
A quick hose down and it’s all gone :) It’s good fun, all three of mine like it. Last summer I did quite a bit of letter work with my younger son.
I absolutely love sidewalk chalk and funny enough I was talking to my mother in law this morning while out shopping and we were looking for some. Came home and saw your post. Great minds think alike. I love that you can get creative, they can make as big a mess outside as they want and the rain takes it all away. hahaha No clean up for parents except maybe the chalk all over their clothes. She is so adorable. I love all your photos. #countrykids

My kids used to love sidewalk chalk too! They are now 8 and we still bring it out on occasion. Never too old to draw! I occasionally join them playing hangman or tic-tac-toe, too.
My three all like it, we use it for games too :)
So cool how she’s enjoying herself – lovely captures! My kids have done the same recently at an after school club in the school playground and it’s almost impossible to get them to head home as they just want to keep drawing and writing with the chalk!
It’s such a great activity. my lot really enjoy it, it’s always a safe bet for some distraction!

You’ve inspired me to get some chalk! On the one occasion when we did this the kids had such a lovely time. I love that she is content in her own company being creative – that’s a beautiful skill.

My daughter is 12 and still loves sidewalk chalk. We just bought a new box to get her through her brother’s baseball tournaments. Her designs are more intricate – usually focused on her name or one of her “fashion girls” (cutest drawings of this cartoon girl in outfits Peanut dreams up). Loved your pictures.

Love chalk. It’s so fun to let the kids have free reign all over garden. Watching them get in touch with their creative side. And the best bit I don’t have to vie an it up because it washes away in the rain. (After you have taken pictures of course) #countrykids
