Last weekend we decided to take a last minute trip north to New Hampshire. The past month or so has been pretty hectic and the kids have had to spend a lot of time following us around as we pack and move boxes. They’ve been very patient and deserved a treat. So, when a friend suggested that we join them at Storyland (a theme park), we jumped at the chance!
We have been to Storyland a couple of times and we all love it. I will write about the two days we spent at the park later this week – it was just the best fun, and what we all needed after such a busy time. But, we also stayed in a lovely self catering resort.
We found this resort the first time we went to Storyland, last summer. It was a last minute trip that time too (!) and we were looking for accommodation at short notice. We found a self catering apartment that looked perfect, and it was! The site has a pool, park, pond and tennis courts; all set in beautiful woodland. It makes for a wonderfully relaxing break.
We drove up on Friday afternoon, stopping for our traditional Dunkin’ Donuts refuelling break! This trip is about the only time we ever go there, so the kids start asking when we’ll reach Dunkin’ after about five minutes in the car!
We arrived at the resort late afternoon, with plenty of time to play before dinner. The boys wanted a game of tennis. Now, game is probably stretching it a bit far, but they had a great time and the 8yo in particular managed to hit the ball quite effectively this time :)
We started with a walk through the resort, enjoying the late afternoon sunshine and the silence (broken only by the squeals of the wee girl!). We found a stream and a little waterfall.
The tennis playing was entertaining to say the least! And to be fair, no one was taking it very seriously, note the appropriate footwear :) The 8yo now understands the rules and is starting to learn to serve and return the ball. (The only time they have played tennis is when we’ve stayed at this resort!). The 5yo tries very hard… And the wee girl is convinced she’s playing golf?!
And, inevitabley, we ended with three against one!
We walked back to the apartment with three happy, hungry and tired children, a perfect end to the day!

This looks like a beautiful place to go! And it looks like you had fun – particularly your daughter up on Daddy’s shoulders. Almost makes me want to dig my tennis racket out of the shed :)
Thank you! It’s in the White Mountains region of New Hampshire and it is really beautiful :)
Looks like great fun and just what you all needed :) Anyone for tennis?!
Thank you, it was exactly the break we needed x
What a fantastic time!! Dad’s looking quite outnumbered in the 3rd to last picture!
He is often outnumbered :)
Wow, it looks like such a fun and beautiful place. I really must start playing tennis with my son, it’s probably the only sport he hasn’t really tried yet. It looks like you all had a fab time, albeit pretty tiring! x
We did, it’s so beautiful and completely relaxing. We love it there x
Looks like great fun! Lovely picture too :) looks like a wonderful place to visit, although over the pond is quite a trek for us :( #LetKidsBeKids
Probably a little far, but it is beautiful!
This looks fun! I love the picture of three against one. I have a friend whose in laws live in New Hampshire and her kids go with them to Storyland. She said they love it!
It’s a fantastic place, I’ll be writing about our trip later this week :)
Aww sound so lovely and I love the dunkin doughnuts trip, I remember certain occasional journeys coinciding with pit stops and was so much fun as a kid, such a treat! Loving the tennis shots, looks so much fun :) xx #sharewithme
They love it, it now has to be part of the journey :)
Oh how beautiful – it looks incredibly tranquil, and a little like bits of Scotland, minus the mountains! I love the action shots too!
It is quite like Scotland :)
I love playing tennis although it doesnt like me =P
Its my PE in college and the only one that I really loved. #letkidsbekids
Ha! I haven’t played for years :)
It sounds like a lovely place to stay and looks like a whole lot of fun. I must say, Harry tries to play golf with his tennis racket too. ;-) Aren’t children funny?!
They are, great fun to watch :)
It looks like you all had a wonderful time. I’ve not played tennis for many years. I’m not very good at it but it’s great fun. Your children are obviously having a fantastic time x
They loved it :) Thank you x
Lovely, looks like great fun. My husband’s best friend lives in New Hampshire and we try to visit whenever we can. It’s a beautiful part of the country, and now I’ve also bookmarked Storyland for our next trip! Look forward to reading more about it soon. x
Oh, you must go! For younger kids, it is just fantastic! And, for adults who aren’t fans of big rides (like me!) it’s perfect too :) Look out for my post tomorrow…
Looks like a lovely, beautiful place. Great fun game of tennis together. I love that last pic :)
Thanks for linking #LetkidsBeKids
Thanks Karen, we had great fun :) In fact, we’re going back up again next week!
What a gorgeous place!! Love those HUGE trees :-)
Great idea!! Definitely time to take the kids to a tennis court!! Though I imagine ALL I’ll be doing is running after tennis balls! I guess we’ll need to bring 20 or so, just to have a few minutes in between playing ball boy :-)
Yeah, we could only find two balls this time… a lot of time spent running after them!
Ahhh Sara this sounds and looks absolutely amazing. Great memories were made for sure here. I love all the fun filled photos. I have always wanted to learn tennis! Thank you so much for linking up to Share With Me. Sorry for the delay in commenting we lost power due to a storm for two days. It was a real treat with no running water, phone or electricity. #sharewithme
It was great fun!
Being without power etc for two days doesn’t sound like much fun :( Hope all is okay now x
Thanks for hosting lovely xx
Great post. I’ve always said that if I visit the States, New Hampshire is one place I have to visit. It always looks so beautiful. Fun game of tennis too – what more could you want ? x #sharewithme
New Hampshire is beautiful, in fact all the parts of New England we’ve visited so far have been lovely x
That sounds like so much fun! I love the photos and am seriously jealous that all of that is on your doorstep! Hope you’re having a lovely summer despite the packing! x x x x
