I have seen so many wonderful posts about going berry picking, but as life has been a little chaotic (!) we just haven’t managed to go yet. So, you can imagine how thrilled I was when my brother-in-law found blackberries in our new garden!
I will confess that they are in an area of the garden that I hadn’t ventured into yet… It’s quite overgrown and I hadn’t been up for negotiating the climbing required :)
But, we have lots of blackberries, and some of them were already ripe!
The kids all spent ages in the garden yesterday hunting for the ‘black’ ones. After a quick lesson on which to pick, pointing out that only the black ones were properly ripe, off they went. They quickly discovered for themselves that the red ones were not yet ready… The it’s sour faces were very funny!
The kids loved it! They all came back with black fingers and mouths having eaten all their spoils.
There are masses still ripening, so now I am on the look out for blackberry recipes… assuming I manage to get to any of them before the kids do :)

Oh lovely! I plan to take my little ones strawberry picking really soon (even though the rain has come again now BOOO). It reminds me of something that I used to love doing when I was really little #countrykids xxx

Wow, you have blackberries in your garden? How lucky! The blackberries are also out early this year! We see them everyday as little T and I walk to “Holiday Club” at her play school :) #countrykids.

Aww fab! We got loads of blackberries from my in laws last year from the bush they had in their garden, they’ve cut it back this year though so I am a bit gutted! How lovely to have a bush in your own garden! We need to go foraging I think :) My fave thing to make with them was blackberry crumble, as it was dead quick and easy haha! :) xx #countrykids

Lovely shots! I noticed last week the blackberries near us were coming out so might walk past today to see if they’re ready! I love blackberries though they always symbolise autumn for me, which we’re clearly not close to just yet ha ha xx

A great activity, so simple but lovely for children to understand where some foods come from. Always fun to make some delicious foods from berry picking.
So jealous they are in your garden!! The ones in our village are still green but there looks like loads of them!

I found some blackberry plants in the train station and no seems to be minding them so one time while we are waiting for my husband to pick us up at the station I took some ripe ones and we ate them =)

We have lots of blackberry’s in our garden, there is something special about picking and eating them when you have picked them fresh.
How lovely. Gosh is has been YEARS since I’ve went blackberry picking where our caravan used to be. And I dont even LIKE blackberries, haha! Fun to pick though and we used to give ours to the wee quaint ‘run by elderly ladies everything made from scratch’ bakery on the corner, lol x
