Today was the first day of school.
We had hit that I’m bored, what are we doing today, I’m bored point of the holidays and the boys were both very ready to get back to school (and I may have been quite ready for them to go too…).
But, most importantly, today was the first day of big school for the 5yo!
He has been so excited about starting Kindergarten. He has been asking for a year now if he could go tomorrow. Every week he has asked for a countdown update, how many weeks now mummy? Every holiday he has wondered if this will be the holiday that marks the change from preschool to school.
So, the big day arrived, and I will admit to worrying a little that there might be a wobble (and not just from me). That he might be overwhelmed. That, worse, it might not live up to his expectations.
I needn’t have worried. He walked up the steps into school without a backward glance this morning (I’d hoped that might take a few weeks…!). He appeared this afternoon completely at ease, wandering out of school quite happily with a hi mummy, before running off to find his sister and brother.
As for what he did today… well, after much questioning, I’m none the wiser! But, that is just the way of it, isn’t it? I guess he’s settled in already!
We are very proud of our grown up boy. It’s all going too fast, but he was so ready for this.
I hope that school is everything he has wished for. I hope that his enthusiasm and excitement for learning continues. I hope that school interests and challenges him. I hope that he has fun.
And his big brother? He had a good day too, although I got no more information out of him as to what he actually did. Kids?!

Haha! It’s hard to get info out of kids about school, especially boys! I always think no news is good news. Congratulations to your son, glad he enjoyed it!
We’ve got this to come next week Sara! JJ has been looking forward to it too. We still haven’t got all of his uniform! I remember asking my step daughter what she’d done at school and it always used to be “can’t remember” ! #sharewithme
Aww so cute, what a big step and sounds like he totally took it in his stride! Lovely post! xx #sharewithme
I’m so glad the 5yo had a good first day of big school. I think no news is good news indeed. I hope he continues to have a great time in Kindergarten.
Aww, such a big moment for both of you but sounds like he took it all in his stride! x
I had that last year! My youngest went off to school and never looked back. All the other kids were crying or clinging and mine waltzed right past without a second glance! I wasn’t allowed in, even for me!!!
Sounds like the perfect first day! I’m glad he enjoyed his first day, even if you have no idea what he got up to! My son is so ready to go back to school now, and I can’t wait either!
So glad your 5yo enjoyed his first day at kindergarten! Such a big milestone for you all :-)
Wow! What a milestone! So not ready for this whole school malarkey! So glad your little man’s settling in well!
What a day!!
The emotions that come to the surface on days like these are beyond belief!
And your 5 year old! Wow! …He’s at school!
Well done mom… You did it!
My four have been bored and desperate to get back to school for weeks lol!! #sharewithme

Ahhh bless congrats on big school. That’s awesome. I hope the first day went great. I am so nervous Buba starts school next year more nervous for his allergies as I know everyhing else will be perfect he is so ready already to go. He kept asking me last week can I go to school? hahaha Eager. Love your photos! I bet you are relieved to have a little more peace with school in order. I know as Buba gets older I am finding running after two tots exhausting and keeping up with everything else too. So I can’t imagine adding another child onto that you are super woman. Great post hun. Thank you so much for linking up to Share With Me I hope to see you again tomorrow for another great round! #sharewithme
