Cheerful: Thoughts while swimming at lunchtime (Guest Post)

Today I am very pleased to introduce Swazi who blogs over at Chocolate is not the only fruit. I have only recently come across Swazi’s blog, and it’s fab. Here she gives us her ‘thoughts while swimming’, her new perspective as a parent.

Breast stroke (head under)
It’s quiet in the pool today – the kids seem to be noisier than usual in the learner pool. K used to love having lessons here. It’s a shame I’m not working any more – if I was I could pay for him to have more lessons.

Mind you he loves coming swimming with me and Hubbie and he remembers all the songs he learned with Sam. He even swam without putting his feet on the floor at the weekend so he’s getting the hang of it. I love how happy he is when he swims.

Actually when I was working he was a lot grumpier as I was always rushing him to get to nursery or I was panicking about being on time to pick him up. Ok I have less money now, but I am here for him and he seems to be thriving.

Back stroke
Maybe I won’t ever be as well paid ever again. Like when if I wanted to take Hubbie to Marrakech for his birthday I could just book it and pay for it and we could go. The money was just there. Now it isn’t.

Only all the while we were on holiday, eating nice food, drinking cocktails and soaking up the sun we were masking the pain of not having a baby. Each child we saw caused an ache inside as we longed to be parents

Back stroke
Waiting and watching everyone else with children and thinking it was just never going to happen for us just became normal. Feeling sad all the time felt normal. I’d forgotten about that. It’s strange what you get used to.

Breast stroke
The change from where we were to where we are has been immense. Not just having a child, but leaving my job. I always worked. It feels strange not to. I don’t know what I’m for any more.

Back stroke
How important can it be to work if it means I don’t get to be with my boy ? It’s not the money – that’s just pride. I hate having to ask for favours and not being able to just pay for things like I used to. It’s embarrassing.

Breast stroke
It does mean I have to save up for things which is no bad discipline. I have enough handbags, shoes, clothes and more toiletries and make up than I’ll ever use anyway. It’s nicer to get things for the boys instead.

Back stroke
So there’s enough saved for a holiday – the boy can visit somewhere sunny and go on a plane for the first time. He’ll spend time with us in a different place and try new foods – he might even like them !

It’s going to be so exciting taking K on his first holiday abroad. I hope he isn’t scared of flying. He’s going to love taking his Trunki and he’s already talking about sunglasses and sandcastles.

Back Stroke
Right, time to get showered and go home for some lunch. Oh and the Archers is on soon – I’d better hurry.

About Swazi:
Swazi is a chocolate obsessed, yoga teaching mum, wife, DJ and blogger. Inspired to start her blog as she has ‘opinions about everything and instead of just shouting at the telly thought I’d put them on here instead’ she presents a radio show ‘Are we nearly there yet?’ On Croydon Radio and would love to write a cookbook!

Please pop over to her excellent and very entertaining blog and have a read.

All this week, I’m hosting a linky of cheerfulness! You can read about the idea here. If you’d like to join in with any cheerful, happy, funny, silly, magical or inspirational posts to brighten up this rather miserable February, please do and I will share them to spread a little cheerfulness :)
