Country Kids: Fun at the Common

Country Kids: Fun at the Common

At last, a sunny Friday! It’s been a while since it was warm and dry enough on a Friday to take the 5yo and the wee girl out and about.

One of our favourite parks is the Common. It’s in the centre of town and has a concrete area for scooting and cycling; complete with town (and resident) provided ride-ons; a sandpit, swings, a toddler climbing frame and a big kids one. It’s a great park and the wee girl and 5yo particularly like playing with all the different tricycles and cars.

As soon as we arrived they both ran for the toys. The Little Tikes Cozy Coupes were very popular today!

Scooters and tricycles were also a hit, although the wee girl is a bit miffed that her feet don’t quite reach the pedals and she can’t quite manage to move them…

The wee girl was in her element, running around and climbing. She spent quite a bit of time on a toddler slide :)

The 5yo also had fun climbing.

It was wonderful to be out in the warm sunshine, enjoying the park. It was interesting to see how much more confident the wee girl is now. She doesn’t need my help to get on and off the toys anymore, and she’s nearly big enough for the tricycles :)

After playing with his sister, the 5yo had a play date with two of his teachers and three of his school friends at the park; a treat that one of his classmates had won at a fundraiser; so the wee girl and I left him to it (two hours of games and pizza!) and headed home for an hour or so (in the vain hope that she would nap, she didn’t!). We’d had a lovely morning, and our summer trips to the Common have begun!

I’m linking up with the wonderful Country Kids at Coombe Mill again this week. Click on the badge to see what everyone else has been up to and be inspired to get outside!

  1. Their confidence grows so quickly doesn’t it. Aaron climbed onto the ladder that’s next to our swing today. Couldn’t a week ago. They progress in leaps and bounds. It’s great when the weather allows us to do more isn’t it. A blue sky ALWAYS lifts my spirits. Love your photos.

Thanks Liska. It’s amazing how fast they develop isn’t it, feels like it happens overnight sometimes x

  2. Mummy to boyz

How good is that! You ha e all the ride ons at the common :-) sounds like a lovely place & the boy would love that train climbing frame!

  3. Your girl is growing! Lots of lovely toys to climb on and enjoy. The Little Tike cars are always popular. I remember them being the most sort after toy at a play group we used to go to. #CountryKids

  4. How superb having a park with so many ride ons for kids to try out! And so lovely how the wee one now is getting just a little bit bigger and more confident to clamber about by herself.

It’s great, a fab resource. A park like this that we go to a lot is a good way to track how big she’s getting, although it’s been a while since we were there last!

  5. Looks like you all had a fun day. My eldest is similar to your wee girl – can’t quite manage the pedals on the trikes yet but loves the Little Tikes cars. Hope you get more sunshine this week

It was good fun, the kids really needed a run around and it’s an ideal park for that :)

  6. what a change from all the snow i saw in your country kid posts from only a few weeks ago!
that park looks good fun and it is great that your daugter is gaining more confidence to off and try the park equipment by herself. i am surprised that she did not nap though! x

I know! It’s lovely to finally be getting some summery weather, I just hope it continues… it’s been a little unpredictable!

  7. Looks like a great park. With loads to do. You never get none static play equipment over here, so really good the town provides it there.

Blooming cosy coupes. Really annoys me how, whenever we go somewhere exciting, they’re the first things N makes a beeline for – even though we have one at home.

All the ride-ons are fantastic, such a fun resource for the kids, the park is always packed!

  8. I love when the wee ones turn a wee corner and start to do more themselves – makes everything much less stressy! i think I used to helicopter a lot, but now it’s sooo much more chilled now the boys can just go and play with only the odd encounter!

It makes such a difference doesn’t it? I used to hover a lot, but I feel much happier letting her get on with things now x
