My oldest, the big brother, is suddenly looking so grown up.
Over the last year he has gone from goofy smiles to serious face, when I can get a photo of him at all. He’ll still pull faces, but in an attempt to get me to give up taking the photo. I try to catch him unawares, thoughtful. Focus on those big blue eyes. Why do boys always get the best eyelashes?
As I flicked through recent images, choosing the portraits for this post (I plan a similar selection for the 5yo and wee girl), I was struck by how his face has changed, no longer a little boy; glimpses of the teenager to come.
When I look at these photos I feel I am looking at his future self, not the child I still see in my minds eye, but the boy who is growing up so fast.
This boy who is nearly eight. This boy who can now eat more than me. This boy who now says ‘Mu-um’ in that exasperated way, a sure sign of the tween to come.

Oh Sara it really catches you unaware moments like this – you start to wonder where the time’s gone! Lovely – big black and white fan here!

It’s such a wonderful new stage though:) My eldest will be ten in September and he is already nearly as tall as I am. He has begun to get that lovley wit that teenage boys seem to have – almost cheeky but wrapped in an innocent smile that just makes you giggle.
I see glimpses of the chubby faced little toddler every now and again but much more of the man he will soon become if I’m honest. For a while it saddend me – now I’m just so excited to see him metamorphosize into whatever it is he will be.
They will always be beautiful – they will always be our babies:)
You’re absolutely right. I find each new stage very exciting, but there are moments of gosh it’s going so fast!

such beautiful pics. My son is 19 months and we have noticed he has changed from baby to little boy; It’s sad to see tha baby years go, but exciting to see the next years ahead of us.

Beautiful photos. I sometimes see the future man that my little boy will be, and it brings tears to my eyes. He’s only three!

This post made me look at my son’s photo before and I saw what you mean about the changes. With you son his maleness is showing more now. I also remember photos of him before where he always hold your daughters hand. Such a gentleman and a good big brother =) #betterphotosproject

Sarah your boys are all so good looking. I love the black and white captures of them it almosts helps see the men they will all become. It’s great to see the grown up looks one minute yet the little boys in them again the next

I am a huge fan of black and white photos. Lovely expression ones here of your son. They grow up so fast don’t they? I never know where the time goes week after week! It’s amazing. Soon you will be watching them all walk down the aisle and have kids of their own. Scare thought isn’t it? #whatthestory

Beautiful photo! My eldest will turn 7 this year, they grow up so fast. Yet, even if they don’t smell quite like a baby and eat like a grown man they will forever remain baby in our eyes.
