My three love animals and they always enjoy visiting our small local zoo. I have mixed views on zoos, but as a means for the children to get up close to some lovely animals and learn more about conservation, they have their place. I love this photo from last summer; the boys looking after their sister and making sure she spotted the animals too.
Joining in with Charly’s Alphabet Photography Project over on PODCast.

That’s a lovely photo and I love the way your boys are pointing out the porcupines to your wee girl x
Thank you Louise, they do look after their sister :)
Your photo is reminding me that I haven’t taken the children to a zoo or farm for ages. Now that she is 2, Jumpy would really start to enjoy seeing lots of animals in one place.
The kids do love the zoo, it’s just a small one, but they always enjoy it x
I only really like zoos which have wide, open enclosures for the animals. But it’s true, kids love zoos!
I’m with you there Tarana, but the kids do love them :)
I agree with you. Zoos are a fabulous learning experience for children. #alphabetphoto x
They are, aren’t they, my three certainly love going x
I know what you mean about having mixed-feelings, same here! I especially find it so sad when I see the animals behind cages, or worse, chained! Saw a lovely-beautiful barn-own at the Otter Sanctuary in Launceston and it was chained :( Yes, I understand, because it was in an open-fenced in area, but it was still heartbreaking to see it chained like that :( Lovely photograph of your little ones :) #alphabetphoto.
Oh, that would break my heart too. For all that this is a small zoo, the enclosures aren’t too bad, although the cats could do with a bit more space x
I think zoos have improved. Used to hate field trips to them in the 80s, but the emphasis has changed. Lovely photo of your three. Sibling interaction at its best. #AlphabetPhoto
I think you’re right, I’d still rather see animals with a lot more space, but I am always impressed with conservation efforts x
I remember seeing this photo before and I love the love of the big brother to their wee sister. Lovely photo =) #AlphabetPhoto
Thank you Merlinda, it’s one of my favourites x
Lovely photo! And suddenly wishing I lived near a zoo… I’ll check out the photo challenge, but you appear to be done?
It will be starting again in January…
That’s a brilliant photo. I know exactly what you mean about zoos, but we love visiting ours too x
I don’t like to see animals in cages of any sort, but I understand the need for conservation and breeding programs, so they are necessary really – and they are a brilliant way to teach our kids more about animals. I’ll continue to support our little local zoo :)
I too have mixed views on Zoos but they are wonderful places for children to see animals they might not otherwise see.
Absolutely, our kids can learn so much from them x
It’s been years since I went to the zoo – and now I have that song in my head “we’re all going to the zoo tomorrow” :) great photo and a fab z
…zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow!
Argh! Now I do too :) But, thank you x
A great choice! A zoo can be amazing when done properly, especially for little ones!
Mine love the zoo too they always y sweet want to see everything at the same time lol.
