Alphabet Photography Project: Z is for… Zoo

Z is for Zoo

My three love animals and they always enjoy visiting our small local zoo. I have mixed views on zoos, but as a means for the children to get up close to some lovely animals and learn more about conservation, they have their place. I love this photo from last summer; the boys looking after their sister and making sure she spotted the animals too.

  1. Your photo is reminding me that I haven’t taken the children to a zoo or farm for ages. Now that she is 2, Jumpy would really start to enjoy seeing lots of animals in one place.

  2. I only really like zoos which have wide, open enclosures for the animals. But it’s true, kids love zoos!

  3. I know what you mean about having mixed-feelings, same here! I especially find it so sad when I see the animals behind cages, or worse, chained! Saw a lovely-beautiful barn-own at the Otter Sanctuary in Launceston and it was chained :( Yes, I understand, because it was in an open-fenced in area, but it was still heartbreaking to see it chained like that :( Lovely photograph of your little ones :) #alphabetphoto.

Oh, that would break my heart too. For all that this is a small zoo, the enclosures aren’t too bad, although the cats could do with a bit more space x

I think you’re right, I’d still rather see animals with a lot more space, but I am always impressed with conservation efforts x

I don’t like to see animals in cages of any sort, but I understand the need for conservation and breeding programs, so they are necessary really – and they are a brilliant way to teach our kids more about animals. I’ll continue to support our little local zoo :)

  4. It’s been years since I went to the zoo – and now I have that song in my head “we’re all going to the zoo tomorrow” :) great photo and a fab z
    …zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow!
