Last night it snowed. Just a little, but enough to leave a dusting of snow on the ground. I knew it wouldn’t last, so before it could melt we wrapped up warm and went to investigate.
It wasn’t the first snow of the year; that was a couple of weeks ago, timed perfectly to coincide with a house full of illness. The wet, cold snow outside reflecting the mood inside.
Today’s snow was accompanied by blue skies and sunshine, and an enthusiasm to play, stomp and taste!
Our little adventure was a much needed breath of fresh air. Slightly jet lagged and still feeling the sense of dislocation that accompanies travel between the UK and the US, this outing was as much for me as for the wee girl. A way to feel present and fully here. To take a deep breath and focus on the joy of a child playing in the snow (even just a dusting!) for the first time this year.
It will certainly not be our last opportunity to enjoy snow, but I will remember it for being the first of the season and for playing a part in my return home.

I hope we get to join you in a taste of snow this year. we have had no more than the tiniest dusting like this for 4 years now. Lovely to be out in the crisp sunshine and experience that snow, the photo tasting the snow is adorable. I hope the jet lag is easing, I used to find it knocked me for 6 when I travelled your way in my old woking days.

I love snow and blue skies! This reminds me of my desperation for a proper winter when I was in Boston back in the 90s. We had the worst weather in years following a Nor’wester (??) I loved it! :) Gorgeous pictures with the mix of Autumn and impending Winter :) #countrykids
You do get proper winters here! And, although it can get a little frustrating, it is so amazing for the kids and I agree, snow and blue skies – fabulous!

Awww parts of me wants snow but the mother part who does school run everyday and is exposed to the elements is not! But we didnt have any snow last time when my son is starting to know things. So a little snow to introduce my son to it is wished for =P #countrykids

That photo of her tasting the snow is absolutely wonderful! These photos show such wonderful curiousity. I must say though that I’m praying for you that the snow stays a way for a while yet, you have it for so long otherwise.

Oh wow, snow already!! I do want some snow this year but I’d be more than happy if we got away with it fro another year as we get trapped indoors for at least a week. Love the photos and hope the jet lag wears off soon. x
