I’m cheating slightly this week with my choice of prompt as I am actually travelling :) We are on one of our mad Ireland/UK/Ireland trips…
I had hoped that the fact I was about to travel would aid the creative process, but I’m still sitting here at the last minute (albeit a couple of days earlier than usual so that I can schedule this) unable to think of a single thing to write.
Every week! You’d think I’d learn.
I could tell you about our travels before children.
I could tell you about our travels with children.
I could tell you far too much about travel sickness, like the time we didn’t even make it to the airport before two out of three children vomited.
But that would probably put you off your breakfast.
So, I did what I often do when stumped, I went looking for quotes. And, I found this one.

And it made me think about my own travels. And made me wonder what I have learnt.
Beach holidays, city breaks. Staying in hotels, staying with friends.
Simple travels, epic journeys.
Relocation overseas!
I have learnt that I love discovering new cities. That I love to wander down unfamiliar streets, but never without a map. That I love to walk on the beach, but not lie on one. That I love to meet new people, but I am quite happy in my own company.
I have learnt that I love to come home, but that home is not a place, it is my family. I have learnt that I appreciate the simplicity and familiarity of my life. That I crave stability.
But, I have also learnt that I am braver than I thought. That I am willing to try. That I will say yes to opportunity.
Because these experiences make my life richer and happier. Make me more able to appreciate the new and the old.
That travel offers a new perspective, and that is always a good thing.

I’m not much of a globe trotter, I can’t do with the phaff of going abroad but I love to hear about people’s experiences. I can’t imagine relocating in a different country but it must be an amazing journey.

Lovely post – I love the idea that home is family. Personally I’ve yet to be bitten by the travel bug and can’t go away for long before I long to return home. Having said that, there’s a mountain village in Switzerland that totally has my heart – I first went there aged 8 and have been back a number of times over the years. I’m currently desperate to go again and introduce my boys to it. That’s the closest I get to travelling though!
Lovely post, Sara! I love traveling as well, but since my daughter was born, I haven’t indulge as much as I used to. I’m always so wary of traveling–plane or train, even cars–with a little one in tow. There’s so many more unknowns and what ifs that could actually happen. But I think you’re right in saying traveling gives you a different perspective, and I’d love my daughter to experience the wonders of an unknown street or the majesty of an unfamiliar town. Thank you for the reminder. This has encouraged me to leave the fear behind and allow my family to experience the beauty of travel. Hope all is well and everyone is safe! Enjoy your time :)
Travel is such a joy in life, and can really open eyes and change perspectives. I wish I could do much more of it
I used to be such a traveller, but children and a lack of money has severely impacted that life. But I can see it, in the not-so-distant horizon, a world full of exploring new places and new streets. And I also like having a map. :) xx

Travel really does give you a fresh perspective. Whether it’s discovering a new place, wandering the streets of a city you’ve never visited before, moving to a different country, or going on holiday to revive yourself, it’s all different. But while adventure is great, stability is good, too, especially with a family xx #ThePrompt

Lovely post. I do miss travelling, we did it a lot before the children were born. We’ve been to quite a few places with them and I could write a few horror stories too – especially our trip back from Florida with three little ones! I think it’s important to encourage your children to travel and it really does refresh and stretch your mind in a good way.
Beautifully written post, lovely sentiment. We don’t travel so much anymore after having kids, money just gets away from us. I love the line about home being family, couldn’t agree more xx
