It is with great relief that I can say it’s summer vacation at last!
And while I know that there will be days when I wish they were back at school, right now I am so pleased that we can just take it easy. No rushing, no school runs, no deadlines.
And lots of trips to the park!
Having only got back from my few days in London for BritMums on Tuesday evening, I was a little tired this week (!) so we have taken it easy. There have been no major outings, which to be fair I think the kids have appreciated too.
But, we did enjoy time in the garden and had a wander to a nearby park (which you may recognise from my last Country Kids post!), the boys taking advantage of the opportunity for a quick scoot.
I can’t remember the last time I took all three kids to the park (other than to the school park at the end of the day, where it’s less fun and more where’s the three year old as I lose sight of her, again, in the sea of bigger kids…!).
Our local park is generally quiet and the younger two love it. The 9yo is less convinced, but he enjoys playing with his brother and sister.
And mummy quite likes having a helping hand when it comes to the swings!
We wrote a summer bucket list today, ranging from eating crisps to building sandcastles to going to Maine and Cape Cod. I’m going to turn it into a poster and put it up in the kitchen so that every day we can decide what we do next.
I’m determined to make the most of this summer, and to head off the cries of I’m bored at the pass!

I love the summer holidays even though I work for a lot of them, the break from the routine and meeting deadlines is such a relief. Your park looks great and deserted except for your three, or maybe you made sure you didn’t get anyone else in the picture.
I saw pictures of you at BritMums, I didn’t realise you had gone. You must have travelled the furthest. I am definitely going next year, it looked brilliant xxx
I love the break from routine, much needed by all of us I think! The park was very quiet, only a couple of other people there, which was great :)
I did go to BritMums and I thought I was the furthest traveled, but I believe there was someone there from UAE :) It was great fun!

I am so looking forward to the break in the routine and rush. Our end of term events started this week. Still have 3 weeks to go. How great to have a local park. I think they love just playing with siblings. Too soon to do our Summer bucket list. Everyone will be wishing time away even faster, if it’s pinned up on our fridge, but I already have a few ideas. I can’t wait till I can say the same, another 3 weeks for us of end of term activities and transition week to comp for the triplets. the joy of just wondering to the park with no deadlines seams blissful. I love the summer bucket poster idea, I may have to copy this! There is never enough time at BritMums is there?! After all our end of term activities, we were more than ready for the holiday! Looking forward to lots of fun, and the odd lazy day :)

I love the idea of putting the bucket list on a poster. I may have to sit down with the girls and do a bucket list this summer.

I haven’t done a bucket list before, but I’ve seen others do it, and I know how easy it is to fritter the days away if you don’t have some ideas in mind… We’ll see how it goes :)

Wow! Summer holidays already. We still have three weeks to go so am a little further behind on the planning and preparing, but I also think there will be lots of what we call down days, where we spend time in our local park and eat crisps!

Oh, I’m planning lots of quiet days too, we all need a rest, but I don’t want to feel that we’ve frittered the time away :)

Ahh happy start of the holidays!! A summer bucket list sounds so good, I think z would love the idea. So far he wants to make an octopus and paint it (after we saw one with googly eyes made out of a toilet roll :))
Oh, do let me see his octopus :) We’ve already managed to tick a few things off our list!
We have a couple of weeks left before ours break up – I can’t wait – we won’t be able to add Cape Cod to our bucket list though unfortunately, more likely Morecambe! :D
Three years here and we still haven’t made it to Cape Cod, it really has become a must-do!
summer holidays were fun when the kids were little, but as they grew into teens it became harder to entertain the gap in their ages, especially with the park and indoor places when it was raining, the same with holidays. we used a wish list and the boys got to pick, in turn, an activity and the others had to participate willingly or they lost their pick the next time, it worked well with a few early issues of complaints
That’s a good idea! There are definitely some things that the 9yo isn’t as keen on, but he gets to choose things that he likes too, so hopefully we’ll keep everyone happy…!
