The Prompt: Organise

The Prompt 120: Organise

Summer vacation is upon us. Ten weeks of fun stretch ahead of us. Ten weeks to fill. I want to be organised. I want to have a plan.

But, I don’t!

My head is buzzing, my life is chaotic (what’s new?) and I’m about as organised as a bowl of spaghetti. Which I’ve forgotten to buy.

For the first time (ever) I have a backlog of review posts to write. I’ve missed deadlines. Okay, they might be self-imposed deadlines, but I’ve still missed them. I’m feeling let down by myself!

And reminded why I don’t say yes to many emails…

I want the kids to have an even more awesome summer than last year. A tall order I know, but still. I want that for them.

I want it for me.

Our bucket list is scribbled on a piece of paper, incomplete.

Our holiday plans are unformed and well, incomplete!

We have company on and off for the whole summer. Huge, fabulous, happy tick.

We have yet to plan a single day out or trip. No ticks there.

And my quest to simplify? Hmm. What can I say, incomplete… which is fine, to be fair. What’s not fine is that I’ve stalled. Completely.

The summer was never going to be hugely productive in terms of home organisation. Especially when my goal is giving the kids an awesome summer. But, I’d hoped to be in a better place by now.

A place where I can find sand toys, hats and picnic blankets.

I chose this prompt a couple of weeks ago, smugly intending to be writing about how organised I was for the summer: what plans we’d made, what ideas we had, what was on our bucket list.

And, all the posts I’d scheduled in advance… *laughs loudly at self*

Ahem.

I need to organise my time, my kids, my vacation, my blog. My life. While I can still laugh about it.

Suggestions on a (virtual) postcard please :)

  1. oh i completely understand this topic- i was such an organised person before i had a child!

Add single parenting into the mix and it became a nightmare!

But recently I’ve started to attempt to do that thing the happier, calmer people do- I try to just go with it. That’s difficult when you have an anxiety disorder but I am trying really hard.

You know that as soon as summer hits your inner mum will ensure you are organised, so don’t fret. Those kids will be happy no matter what you choose to do as long as they get time with you and their friends.

You’re absolutely right, and I am trying to let it go more often. Just about getting there :) And, we have now written a bucket list, so I’m feeling a bit happier! Of course, the kids don’t care/notice. They just want to go to the pool and the beach!

I know, I used to be such an organized person, now, not so much! As far as the summer goes, so far so good – and I did get that bucket list written!

  2. I have to be a little bit organised for the summer due to sorting out childcare. If I didn’t have to work, I think I’d make a few plans but then enjoy relaxing and taking some days as they come. Luckily I’m only working about 2 days a week so I get to have some time off with my boy. I’m sure it will all come together for you Sarah, enjoy! xxx

Three weeks in and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing, alternating between ‘activities’ and chilled days :) So far, so good!

  3. Oh being organised is sooo over rated! hehe. Sometimes it is nice to just go with the flow, be lazy, have pj days or a garden picnic. Sometimes the best plans don’t even turn out to be that good in the end. Have a lovely holiday and break xx #thtruthabout

Ha! You’re right, and the best days are often the last minute, spontaneous ones :)

  4. I have absolute F all organised Sara if that’s any consolation! No holidays – EJ’s birthday is in about 20 days time and I have nothing bought or planned, JJ’s is in early September – again, nothing. No days out over summer… I am losing the plot!! I think you’ll all have a great summer though – just go with the flow! Thanks for linking up to #thetruthabout this week! Xx

I have to admit, I’m generally a bit last minute with most things! I like to have a few ideas up my sleeve though for those days when everyone is getting a bit cranky!
