We had a wonderfully busy summer, with my mum and sister both visiting, and all three kids enjoying time at summer camp. Before we knew it, we were half way through August and hadn’t yet had a family holiday!
This is not unusual for us.
We are notoriously bad at getting ourselves organised and booking trips! But, we were determined to make the most of the last couple of weeks of summer vacation and we really wanted to get back to Cape Cod. My husband worked his last minute magic and found us an Airbnb house (with a pool *squeal*) in Mashpee, on the Cape, and off we went for four days of complete relaxation.
It was much needed and it was awesome!
We watched the eclipse. We read books. We visited the Cape Cod Children’s Museum while we waited to get into the house (less of a museum, more an epic play space). We ate at our traditional lunch spot – three years in a row makes it a tradition! – the Sesuit Harbor Cafe. We played mini golf. We took in the Cape Cod Natural History Museum. And, we spent lots of time by the pool.

This was the only time we made it to the beach! To be fair, the weather was against us for most of our trip, but still!

The Natural History Museum had a brilliant scavenger hunt for the kids, finding the troll was on the list, as was checking what your wing span was.
And my favorite spot? Right here… feet in pool, drink in one hand, book in the other *sigh*
It was wonderful to just get away for a few days, I can’t remember the last time we did so little! We really took it easy, no pressure to do things, visit places, keep busy. And to be honest, if it hadn’t rained we probably wouldn’t have visited the Natural History Museum!
I’m so glad we managed to get a few days away as a family, and maybe next year we might actually be organised enough to make it a week *ahem*.

I began these ‘Snapshots’ posts over the summer, when my days were too busy having fun with my kids to spend time writing about the fun we were having. They are a way for me to record the moments, but not feel obliged to write War and Peace. Capture the days as they happen. No SEO, no pinnable images, no stress. I do like these snapshot moments. It reminds me why we all enjoyed blogging back at the start – before we really understood SEO and just captured the moments as they happened. There is a lot to be said for this style of post and it does show the fun you had, the family time to bond and unwind and without the pressure to be the world’s most adventurous family! A lovely way to look back on the end of summer and well done to your husband on finding the perfect house.
