On Father’s Day we decided to venture ‘out of State’ for the first time and headed north into New Hampshire to visit the Odiorne Point State Park and the Seacost Science Center.
The science centre was a lovely little museum with enough exhibits and sea creatures to keep the kids entertained for well over an hour. The scavenger hunt that we were handed as we arrived helped keep the small people engaged and interested in the various exhibits.
We started in the diving and submersibles section, which the boys loved!
The 4yo worked very hard to get air to the diver…
Both boys had a go at steering an ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle)!
They fished…
And then they investigated the tanks – where the wee girl became ridiculously excited by the fish!
The boys then headed to the touch tank. The water was absolutely freezing – thankfully hubby stepped in to help find the starfish for them to touch! And of course, anything her brothers can do… the wee girl was not going to be left out of the experience :)
All in all it was a fun visit with plenty of interactive exhibits aimed at kids. We also happened to catch a short talk on seahorses from a slightly nervous intern. This was in honour of Father’s Day, daddy seahorses taking a more active role in the nurturing of their children than most animals!
The boys enjoyment was definitely helped by the addition of the scavenger hunt – although I’m still intrigued to know where the green sea urchins were… I take comfort in the fact that we weren’t alone in being completely unable to find them!
