Today sees the launch of a lovely new linky over at Ethan’s Escapades.

I had planned to link up an old post (it’s been one of those weeks) but then last night an amazing thing happened!
My 4yo has had a fantastic year at preschool here in the US.
Arriving from the UK, only just turned three, and starting at a new school (that was hugely different to his old nursery) was a massive step for him. It could have been really tough, but he took to it like a duck to water.
The structure, the challenge – he absolutely loved it.
Last night he came running downstairs with a book.
It was one of our family favourites: Orange Pear Apple Bear by Emily Gravett.
We’ve had it since the 7yo was little. It’s a wonderfully simple, funny, rhythmic book that you can’t help but join in with and smile.
Using his newly developed letter and decoding skills, the 4yo read me the whole book. Recognising the letter at the start of each word – ‘o-o-orange’ ‘b-b-bear’ – he worked his way through each page.
It was the most wonderful thing to watch.
Obviously, I was massively proud of him reading a whole book by himself for the first time.
But more than that, his absolute joy was one of the most magical things I have ever seen.
He was bursting with pride – and he had every right to be!

How wonderful, I can’t wait for that moment. Yesterday Monkey sat with a friend of mine and talked her through a book he loves, and that was amazing, but to actually read it! :)
It was wonderful. It’s such a simple book, but the words are in a different order on every page, and he didn’t miss a single one!
Awww well done to him! What a lovely moment. Great that he’s enjoying his new school, kids are so resilient aren’t they?
They are, aren’t they – he settled in without any problems at all. A little harder for his big brother, but in the great scheme of things it couldn’t have gone better really xx
What an amazing achievement and a fantastic moment to share with your son. It sounds like he is doing so well. I think I need to get Ethan this book as it sounds like one he would enjoy.

Lovely to rediscover a favourite book. Great too that the US/UK transition is working well, I’ve heard that this can be tough.
Thank you. It’s been easier than we had expected – we’ve been very lucky to find great schools and a lovely community. There are a few ‘differences’ that have caught us, but on the whole it’s been good!
This would make any mummy proud! I love that my wee man loves books. Reading is such a great thing!
