It’s that time of year again, and everyone has gone pumpkin mad!

The Fall porch decorations are up: pumpkins and scarecrows and harvest wreaths.

Pumpkins of all shapes, sizes and colour are available in every store. Craft pumpkins, glass pumpkins and light up pumpkins; scary pumpkins and arty pumpkins – the choice is overwhelming.

Fabulous gourds, colourful and gnarly.

The stores are full of pumpkin flavour.

Pumpkin soup and pumpkin bread. Pumpkins waffles and pancakes. Pumpkin ravioli and pumpkin cream cheese. Pumpkin scones and pumpkin oatmeal. Pumpkin spice coffee and tea.

Pumpkin pie!

If you can add a flavour to it, there is a pumpkin version for the season.

People stock up. In a couple of months the bread mixes and canned pumpkin will disappear, making their reappearance come next Fall all that more exciting!

Yesterday the 4yo and I tried one of the pumpkin bread mixes and made muffins. They are very tasty! I am beginning to understand the obsession with all things pumpkin :)

It’s a wonderful time of year, full of traditions and warm, tasty food.

As we begin the countdown to Thanksgiving, enjoying Halloween along the way, we will be crafting and decorating. Going for long walks and admiring the trees.

Soon, we will be crunching through leaves and preparing for snow.

It’s going to be good!

It’s funny, it sort of passed me by last year, we were still in the whirl of settling in. I’m embracing it this year :) I LOVE pumpkin bread! The 4yo wants me to make him a pumpkin pie…! We’ll see :)

Well, most pumpkin things seem to have a good dose of cinnamon and nutmeg in them too… so my next thing to try is pumpkin pie or pumpkin soup for something that tastes more of ‘pumpkin’! I do love pumpkin bread though and I’ll let you know how the pancakes go this weekend :)

i do love that in America they do the holidays so well. I was in disney for halloween many years ago & still some of the fondest memeories I have as a child. were your cupcakes flavoured with pumpkin?? sounds interesting if so. May have to try something like this for our halloween :):) xx

The cupcakes were indeed pumpkin flavoured – lovely!
They really do take the holidays seriously here, this weekend will be spent getting our Halloween decorations up – we’re late with this already :)

This is another American tradition that I love, all those big pumpkins on the porches, they just look so right amongst the colours of the leaves. I like pumpkin muffins and bread, but I must confess that pumpkin pie just tastes odd to me and I’m not a huge fan of the soup either. I love roasting the seeds in the oven and snacking on them x

It’s funny you say that – I tried a pumpkin yogurt last year and it totally put me off everything pumpkin. Tried some bread this year, and wow, it is fabulous! Still a bit sceptical about pies and soup though :) We’ll see, going to give things a go this year!
