The Prompt: Grow

The Prompt 102: Grow

School days.
With a naive understanding
and a carefree view,
we find safety
in the relationships
that define us.
With the innocence of youth,
we learn, push boundaries, grow.

And then I am,
twenty.

Work haze.
With a fresh understanding
and a spontaneous view,
we find excitement
in the relationships
that divert us.
Making mistakes that shape,
we travel, experiment, grow.

And then I am,
thirty.

Mother daze.
With a expanded understanding
and an exhausted view,
we find solace
in the relationships
that hold us.
With an awakening truth,
we love, appreciate, grow.

And then I am,
forty.

Identity phase.
With a deepened understanding
and a shifting view,
we find inspiration
in the relationships
that fulfill us.
With a clarity that transforms,
we learn, push boundaries, grow.

And then I am,
me.

  1. Such a beautiful journey through your journey through life so far – I love the rhythm of this, the play on words in “Mother’s Daze” and the final two lines that bring it back to you, giving a real sense of completeness to the poem.
