On finding the happy

On Finding the Happy - Quote

Today I took a walk with my children. We headed to one of our favourite spots with a picnic and soaked up some early spring sunshine. It was wonderful.

As I sat watching them throw stones at the frozen lake, with the sun on my face, I had one of those moments. The ones where everything is just right. There is no where else you need to be, nothing else you need to be doing. You’re exactly where you should be.

I think we could probably all do with more of these moments, I know I could.

While I’m writing my lists and making sure I’m doing all the right things, perhaps a moment now and then for a reality check is needed.

Do more of what makes you happy. Carmel McConnell

What is it that truly makes your heart sing? What makes you feel alive? What keeps the bad days in perspective and gives you hope?

What makes you HAPPY?

Work out what that is, and do more of it.

The truth is, I know that I can find my happy in lots of places, large and small. In the smell of the sea, the act of writing, the company of my family. In a really good cup of tea, an amazing book or a laughter filled evening with friends.

And sometimes the happy takes me by surprise.

I also know that every day isn’t going to be wonderful, but every day has the potential to contain a happy moment.

The key is to find it, then do the same the next day.

Then add it to the to-do list!

Months ago I was tagged by a wonderful writer, who blogs over at My Degrees of Separation, in the three day quote challenge. I am monumentally bad at responding to tags – add them to the deadline-hanging list! – but I generally get round to them eventually, especially if it’s one that has sparked my interest and inspired me to think. This is Day Three in that challenge.

  1. This is such a good reminder … I’m often the victim of over-booking myself and giving too much of myself. Self-care and saying yes to what makes us happy is so, so important. I agree – putting what makes us happy NEEDS to make it on our to-do lists. Love this!

  2. Beautiful post as always. I share many of your things for happiness and getting out is so vital to our wellbeing and so easy to avoid when life is busy

  3. Lovely post Sara and a great reminder that there is always a happy moment to be found in every day if we just remember to look for them. X
