Me and: Wishes for 2013

Wishes for 2013

In December I came across a ‘Mums Make Date’ twitter party organised by Story of Mum. This is a wonderful website, if you haven’t already, you must check it out! I’m now looking forward to the next make date which is in a few days time :)

I had never attended a twitter party before, had no idea what I was doing, but this ‘make date’ really caught my eye. It was to make a Christmas angel and record our wishes for the coming year on the angels wings. This was such a lovely idea, and I was looking for an activity to do with my 3yo that afternoon, so I joined in.

Two things really struck me during, and after, this lovely crafty hour.

The first was that I had forgotten how much I enjoyed making things. I don’t sew (ever) or bake (often), but I love drawing, painting, decorating etc. However, if I’m completely honest, I simply haven’t made the time for it for years. I was always ‘too busy’ at work and then ‘too tired’ at home.

The second was that I never really sit and think about what I would like to achieve (outside of work). There are always things I’d like to do, but I never write them down or articulate them in any way, which means they never become ‘real’ to me. So, they don’t happen.

One of the things that our move (and my decision to stop working, for the moment) allows me to do is focus more time and effort on life in general; without the excuses that working long hours and being tired and stressed bring. I have no excuses now not to do the things that I would like to do; for myself and for my family.

So, I wrote down my wishes for 2013. And, as I commit them to paper (however virtual it may be), I hope that I can work towards making them a reality. They are not resolutions, because I have never kept resolutions. They are hopes, wishes, aspirations for how I will live my life for the next year.

To make the most of the opportunity we’ve been given by our move.
To play more with my children.
To have more alone time with my husband.
To laugh more as a family.
To have more time for me, to just stop, think and consider.
To be more patient.
To not shout.
To sustain the calmer pace of life that I have discovered.
To find joy in the small stuff and not worry so much about the big stuff.
To find moments of silence every day.

There are also a few specific things I would like to achieve:
To start painting again.
To finish all three baby books (yes, I know!).
To explore the US.
To read more.
To develop my blog.

At the time of the make date, one of my wishes was to start this blog, and starting as I mean to go on, I got my act together. And, here I am! Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

I started my first blog post with the words ‘Being the queen of procrastination…’. Perhaps my first wish should be to not procrastinate, but to do.
