My week that was [3]

My week that was

I’m linking up to Real Housewife of Suffolk County again this week.

So, this has been a tiring week, my husband was away Sunday to Friday… This is the first business trip my husband has done since we moved here. Trips away in themselves are not that unusual, and I’ve muddled through many times before. Being away from home and my familiar support network made it a little more daunting this time though. Thank goodness for kind friends and neighbours helping out!

Monday
Monday school run went smoothly, and I made it to my little girls swimming class. It was fun to catch up with the other mums there, then head home for some chill time with my girl before picking her brothers up from school. Sadly, wee girl decided it was play time at 11.30pm… Finally went back to sleep a bit before 2am… Then son number 2 kicked his covers off and called me! Arg!

Tuesday
I pried myself out of bed after a mammoth three hours sleep… Managed to get the kids to school and then walked into town to pick up the Christmas thank you cards that I had ordered, little girl taking her nap on route. Then we headed to a play date with one of the ‘swimming’ mums (moms!). Son number 1 had garden club after school, and another mum offered to bring him home so I didn’t need to get the other two out the door again! Got the kids fed and into bed and collapsed on the sofa.

Wednesday
I woke up and looked out of the window to be greeted by three inches of snow, and it was still snowing. School run in the snow, excellent… And without husband, shovelling of driveway and pavement to follow, just what I needed! Thankfully my neighbour came and watched wee girl while I took the boys to school, which made the whole experience a little easier – and I was very grateful for our new three wheel jogging buggy/stroller as it coped with the snow (almost), and didn’t just become a snow plough! For some reason later that morning, after spending the best part of an hour shovelling snow I decided that walking into town for little girls music class was a good idea… It wasn’t! Son number 1 had his art class after school, so my neighbour popped round again at 5pm so that I could dive out (in the car this time!) to get him. Again, kids fed and sent to bed… And collapse.

Thursday
It all starts to become a bit of a blur at this point. Lack of sleep and fighting with snow taking their toll! Stayed at home, except for school runs and took it easy, and consoled myself with the fact that this was the second last solo dinner/bath/bed…

Friday
It was bitterly cold on Friday morning, -7C and windy – the sort of day where you burn with the cold. Again my wonderful neighbour popped in so that I only had to take the 6yo to school (his brother isn’t in preschool on a Friday). It was also ‘Hawaiian Day’ at school (yes, really!), so my son went to school dressed in a ‘surfy’ t-shirt, lei and sunglasses clutching a coconut ukulele!?! Thank goodness for the iParty shop – where else would you get Hawaiian themed accessories in the middle of winter! He also ‘won’ the class mascots (elephant and piggy) for the weekend – he was thrilled that it was finally his turn! And of course there is a diary to fill in with all the exciting things that you do with elephant and piggy… first photo taken at bed time :) Husband got home at 8.30pm and I went to bed – safe in the knowledge that I wouldn’t be getting up again for the children…!

Saturday
This is swimming lessons day, so the boys disappeared with their dad (and elephant and piggy…) for the morning. I enjoyed the silence (for as long as the wee girl napped anyway!). The afternoon was spent catching up (and taking photos of elephant and piggy…). The boys were so pleased to have their dad back. We got the kids to bed early, movie night for the boys, and then we got comfy on the sofa with a glass of wine and a bit of telly. How rock and roll are we?!

Sunday
Sunday morning is my time off from the kids – I go and do the shopping and then head to Starbucks for a tea and cake, and some alone time with twitter and my book. Lovely :) The boys decided that they wanted to bake a cake in the afternoon – and invented a chocolate chip, fruit gum, refresher cake (with help from – you guessed it – elephant and piggy!)… Should be a taste sensation. Sadly, as a vegetarian I will probably have to resist as I can’t eat fruit gums…! I’ll be missing out, I’m sure :)

Please hop on over to Real Housewife of Suffolk County to check out her blog, how to link up and see how hers, and others, weeks went!

  1. Monday night sounds tough with the children waking up. I hate nights like that.
I love the sound of garden club!
It’s lovely that your neighbour is there to help when you need them.
Sunday to yourself sounds fantastic. I am envious.
Thank you for linking up x
